A qualitative exploration of neophyte sport psychology practitioners self-care experiences and perceptions

Daniel R. F. Martin et al.

Summary: This study explored the self-care experiences of 18 neophyte Sport Psychology Practitioners (SPPs). The findings revealed that engaging in self-care was perceived to benefit the work-life balance and holistic development of neophyte SPPs. The development of self-awareness and psychological flexibility were identified as key mechanisms for effective self-care. Efforts are needed to emphasize the importance of self-care during training through employing organizations, regulatory bodies, and educational institutions.

Conceptual and Design Thinking for Thematic Analysis

Virginia Braun et al.

Summary: This study discusses the application of thematic analysis (TA) in psychology and the need for researchers to choose different methods within TA that may vary in conceptualization and design considerations. The lack of understanding and acknowledgment of this diversity often results in research lacking coherence. The authors provide guidance on conceptual and design thinking for TA, particularly for their own reflexive approach, to support researchers in conducting methodologically sound TA research.

However, there is a lack of research on professional identity within sport psychology, posing a risk to the future of the profession.
