Real-time smooth trajectory generation for 3-axis blending tool-paths based on FIR filtering

Jun Fang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a real-time smooth trajectory generation algorithm for 3-axis blending machining tool-paths. The algorithm utilizes finite impulse response filters to generate a smooth trajectory with bounded acceleration in real-time. Furthermore, it adjusts the feed rate to control contour error in the case of long segments and realizes smooth trajectory generation for blending tool-paths through pre-discretization.

Parametric FIR filtering for G-code interpolation with corner smoothing and zero circular contour error for NC systems

Ruei-Yu Huang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new scheme for G-code motion planning called parametric acc/dec interpolation (PADI). PADI can smoothly interpolate curved commands in the working space, avoiding velocity discontinuity issues, and can also achieve zero contour error in circular trajectories like ADBI. The PADI scheme combines the advantages of ADAI and ADBI by planning motion profiles in a parametric space and interpolating commands in the working space.

Local corner smoothing algorithm for screw motor high-precision machining

Dao-Yang Yu et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a novel two-step local corner smoothing method for transitioning non-linear contours, including path smoothing and feedrate scheduling. By using a non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) curve to smooth the adjacent non-linear contour and constraining the cornering error with tolerance, fluctuations on machine tool motions and poor surface quality caused by velocity discontinuities at corners can be solved. A jerk-limited S-curve feedrate scheduling scheme based on machine tool dynamics is developed to ensure machine tool stability. Numerical simulations and actual machining and measurement experiments confirm the superior performance of the proposed algorithm.

A prediction and compensation method of robot tracking error considering pose-dependent load decomposition

Shizhong Tan et al.

Summary: Industrial robots are widely used due to their high flexibility and low cost compared to CNC machine tools. However, their low tracking accuracy hinders their application in high-precision manufacturing. To overcome this, a prediction and compensation method using temporal convolutional network (TCN) is proposed to improve tracking accuracy by considering the pose-dependent effect of load on joint tracking error. Experimental results demonstrate that the model effectively predicts and compensates for errors, significantly enhancing tracking accuracy in the Cartesian coordinate system.

Profile error-oriented optimization of the feed direction and posture of the end-effector in robotic free-form milling

Xiang Qu et al.

Summary: In the field of robotic milling of free-form surfaces, most studies have focused on optimizing robot stiffness to reduce profile errors. However, this method does not accurately reflect the milling performance, especially when the influence of feed direction on profile error is ignored. To address this issue, a new profile error-oriented optimization model is proposed, which directly optimizes the feed directions and end-effector postures. The model considers robot stiffness, free-form surface features, feed directions, and cutting forces to calculate and reduce the force-induced profile error at each cutter contact point. Experimental results show that this method significantly improves milling performance.

Summary: This paper presents a computationally efficient FIR-filtering based tool-path modification method that achieves significant reduction in trajectory error, vibration avoidance, and machining time. By modifying the trajectory commanded by G-codes based on trajectory error and angular speed, the proposed method greatly reduces trajectory error. The method is validated using a commercial machine tool and it successfully reduces average trajectory error without sacrificing vibration avoidance by the smoothing filter, particularly for circular arcs.

Summary: This paper presents a FIR filtering-based dual-spline interpolation algorithm using pseudo curves for feedrate scheduling in five-axis machine tools. The algorithm reduces the dimension of the problem and solves the nonlinear matters using the proposed pseudo curves and FIR filtering. Additional constraints are added to handle the new problems induced by the filtering process. Experimental tests show that the presented method performs well in motion efficiency, smoothness, and real-time capability.
