Investigation of oil content removal performance in real oily wastewater treatment by electrocoagulation technology: RSM design approach

Muhammad Aiyd Jasim et al.

Summary: This study treated real oily wastewater from a petroleum refinery using a modernized electrocoagulation reactor (ECR) to reduce the oil content (OC) to suitable levels for consumption. The ECR consisted of a two-sided finned cathode tube and two tubular anodes, with optimized values of electrolysis time, current density, and flow rate achieving 99% OC removal efficiency. The research validated the ECR's ability to treat oily wastewater and could serve as a precursor to other traditional procedures.

A critical insight into occurrence and fate of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their green remediation approaches

Archana Kumari et al.

Summary: In the past century, the rapid growth of industrial activities, especially in the pharmaceutical and petrochemical sectors, as well as the excessive use of fertilizers and insecticides, has led to a significant increase in the contamination of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These pollutants are widely distributed in the ecosystem, including soil, air, and marine water, and they have immunotoxic, carcinogenic, and genotoxic effects. Bioremediation has been proven to be a safe and cost-effective method for removing PAHs. This review addresses the sources of PAHs, their impact on human health, the interaction of PAHs with soils and sediments, as well as the current status and challenges of remediation technologies.

Optimization of continuous electrocoagulation-adsorption combined process for the treatment of a textile effluent

Kamel Hendaoui et al.

Summary: The study aims to design and optimize a full continuous combined process based on electrocoagulation-adsorption to treat real textile effluent using Tunisian clay. The characterization of the clay confirms its suitability for the process. The response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the process parameters, and the achieved removal efficiencies for color, COD, and TSS were satisfactory, accompanied by a reasonable cost. The results of additional laboratory experiments validated the accuracy and capability of RSM for predicting outcomes in defined conditions. The designed process offers an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative for treating and reusing wastewater in industrial processes.
