Conformal Electrodeposition of Antimicrobial Hydrogels Formed by Self-Assembled Peptide Amphiphiles

Gervasio Zaldivar et al.

Summary: The colonization of biomedical surfaces by bacterial biofilms is concerning due to their higher antimicrobial resistance compared to liquid cultures. Developing antimicrobial coatings for complex-shaped medical objects is an important research direction. This work reports the preparation of antibacterial surfaces via electrodeposition of a self-assembling hydrogel of cationic peptide-amphiphiles (PAs). The hydrogels inhibit the growth of various bacteria and prevent the formation of biofilms and colonies.

Electrofabrication of large volume di- and tripeptide hydrogels via hydroquinone oxidation

Courtenay Patterson et al.

Summary: In this study, the largest di- and tri-peptide based hydrogels were fabricated on electrode surfaces using an electrochemical method with deposition times ranging from two to five hours. The process was performed under an inert nitrogen atmosphere to prevent the oxidation of hydroquinone in air. The results show that this approach can be used to form multilayer gels, with the mechanical properties of each layer determined by the composition of the gelator. Examples of gel-to-crystal transitions and syneresis within the material were also observed.

A Versatile and Simple Approach to Electrochemical Colloidal Probes for Direct Force Measurements

Andreas Karg et al.

Summary: The colloidal probe technique, based on micrometer-sized colloidal particles attached to a cantilever, revolutionized direct force measurements by AFM. The versatile approach presented allows combining direct force measurements and potentiostatic control, enabling the study of adhesion behavior and long-range forces of electrode materials. The resulting interaction force profiles are in good agreement with theoretical calculations based on charge regulation and solutions of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation.
