Dependence of predicted bulk properties of hexagonal hydroxyapatite on exchange-correlation functional

Xian Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, 18 different exchange-correlation functionals of density functional theory (DFT) were used to calculate the geometric, elastic, electronic, and thermodynamic properties of hydroxyapatite (HA). The optB86b-vdW and optB88-vdW functionals with dispersion corrections showed the best agreement with experimental data. Phonon calculations were then performed using the optB88-vdW functional and the PBE functional without dispersion corrections, and the results demonstrated that the optB88-vdW functional had significantly better agreement with experimental data.

Investigation of protonation and deprotonation processes of kaolinite and its effect on the adsorption stability of rare earth elements

Sen Qiu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protonation and deprotonation processes of hydroxyl groups on kaolinite surfaces and their impact on the adsorption stability of rare earth elements (REEs). The results showed that the hydroxyl groups on the edge surface of kaolinite were more reactive and favorable for deprotonation. The experimental results confirmed the calculated adsorption energies, demonstrating that REEs preferentially adsorbed on the deprotonated kaolinite surface.

Interface Engineering of a Bifunctional Cu-SSZ-13@CZO Core-Shell Catalyst for Boosting Potassium Ion and SO2 Tolerance

Lingfeng Jia et al.

Summary: A bifunctional core-shell Cu-SSZ-13@CZO catalyst was designed and fabricated, which showed enhanced resistance to sulfur and potassium ion poisoning compared to pristine Cu-SSZ-13. The Cu-SSZ-13 core was protected from poisoning by the CZO shell, resulting in improved catalytic activity for selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides.

Total Oxidation of Toluene and Propane over Supported Co3O4 Catalysts: Effect of Structure/Acidity of MWW Zeolite and Cobalt Loading

Weidong Zhang et al.

Summary: Supported Co3O4 catalysts were designed and prepared, with MCM-22 identified as the optimal support. Increasing Si/Al ratio and decreasing external surface area of MCM-22 were found to positively affect the activity of the catalysts, which is determined by their low-temperature reducibility. Additionally, the activity of Co/MCM-22 catalysts increased with cobalt content.

A comparative state-of-technology review and future directions for rare earth element separation

Emmanuel Ohene Opare et al.

Summary: This study provides an overview of existing REE production and recovery pathways, highlighting the top three most explored separation techniques (leaching, solvent extraction, and plasma) and study fields (chemistry, engineering, and metallurgy). The dominant REE separation technique across various research fields was found to be the use of acids, bases, ionic liquids, and salts for leaching REEs. The study also suggests the agromining approach as a practical method for sustainable REEs recovery from secondary sources and end-of-life products.
