Design and design investigations of a flow control spool valve

Abeetath Ghosh et al.

Summary: Flow and pressure controlled by a spool valve are important and efficient in fluid power systems. The demand for spool valves is increasing for high precision electrohydraulic control circuits. In this study, a spool valve was developed based on standard assumptions and used in a variable displacement axial piston pump as part of a pressure compensator component. The design was based on static force balance and the valve's outfit was optimized using a mathematical model and finite element analysis to meet high-pressure application requirements.

Structure improvement and parameter optimization of micro flow control valve

Guodong Qu et al.

Summary: In this study, a fluid-solid coupling simulation analysis of the valve core was conducted to address the sticking phenomenon between the valve core and the valve sleeve during movement and the high torque required for rotation. The valve core structure was improved and optimized using the bird colony algorithm. The combination structure of the valve sleeve and valve core was studied, and a fluid-solid coupling model was established to analyze the static structure of the valve sleeve and valve core before and after improvement. Mathematical models of triangular buffer tank, U-shaped buffer tank, and combined buffer tank were established, and the structural parameters of the combined buffer tank were optimized using bird swarm optimization. The results showed that the combined buffer tank had the best depressurization effect and stability, while the triangular buffer tank had a good depressurization effect but high impact and the U-shaped buffer tank had stable and gentle pressure but an unsatisfactory depressurization effect. The optimal structural parameters for the combined buffer tank were a cut-in angle of 72°, a plane angle of 60°, and a depth of 1.65 mm. This study provides an effective solution for the sticking problem of the regulating valve core during operation, achieving the best pressure buffering effect at the key position of the valve port.

Multiphase throttling characteristic analysis and structure optimization design of throttling valve in managed pressure drilling

Zhi Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper studies the pressure regulation characteristics of the throttle valve under multiphase flow conditions, establishes corresponding mathematical and CFD models, and verifies them through experiments. The results show that the opening of the throttle valve has a nonlinear relationship with the throttling pressure drop, which is not conducive to field application. By optimizing the geometric structure of the throttle valve core, the fine adjustment of the wellhead back pressure under multiphase flow conditions is realized, which has guiding significance for wellbore pressure control.

Theoretical and Experimental Flow Characteristics of a Large-Scale Annular Channel in Terms of Deformation Gradient, Eccentricity, and Water Compressibility

Shendan Zhao et al.

Summary: Hydraulic water plunger pumps are widely used due to their high output pressure and large flow characteristics. The leakage of the annular channel of the plunger pair is a crucial factor affecting volume efficiency. This study derived deformation equations and leakage equations of the annular channel under laminar and turbulent flow, and experimentally measured the eccentricity and leakage under different pressure conditions. The results effectively predict the sealing performance of plunger pumps.

Effects of tip clearance on energy performance of three-stage electrical submersible pump

Yong Han et al.

Summary: To investigate the influence of tip clearance on the energy performance of electrical submersible pump (ESP), numerical simulation and experimental study were conducted. The results showed that the increase of tip clearance led to a decrease in energy performance. The rotor-stator interaction between the impeller and the diffuser was identified as the main factor for increased turbulence and energy losses under part-load flow rate conditions.

Design of control valve with low energy consumption based on Isight platform

Xinbiao Zhang et al.

Summary: The research presents a novel design method for control valves that can achieve low energy consumption and meet control requirements. Simulation results show that, under the same flow rate, the output pressure of the pump and the pressure drop of the control valve both decrease, with the working flow characteristics curve exhibiting high linearity.

Comparative study of tip leakage vortex trajectory and cavitation in an axial flow pump with various tip clearances

Xi Shen et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the impact of blade tip-gap size on the performance of an axial flow pump. The results show that the size of the tip leakage vortex (TLV) increases and its starting point moves further downstream as the tip-gap size increases. The angle between the blade suction surface and the TLV also increases. Furthermore, the larger tip-gap size leads to a more disordered flow field due to increased leaking flow.

Valve Stiction Detection and Quantification Using a K-Means Clustering Based Moving Window Approach

Da Zheng et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel and effective stiction detection method is proposed utilizing K-means clustering and the moving window approach. The method not only offers an estimation for the stiction band in sticky control valves, but also demonstrates superior performance compared to existing methods in detecting severe valve stiction or unexpected valve closures.

Numerical and experimental investigation of leakage behavior at null position of high-pressure electro-pneumatic servo valve

Zhang Di-jia et al.

Summary: The study found that the clearance structure of the high-pressure electro-pneumatic servo valve has a significant impact on leakage behavior at null position, with leakage flow rate varying linearly or nonlinearly with supply pressure, rounded corner radius, and annular clearance. These variations have important implications for control precision and stability of the system.
