Macrophage polarization state affects lipid composition and the channeling of exogenous fatty acids into endogenous lipid pools

Pooranee K. Morgan et al.

Summary: This study reveals that interactions between adipose-tissue-resident macrophages and fatty acids play a crucial role in maintaining metabolic homeostasis and triggering inflammation. Different macrophage subsets exhibit distinct utilization of exogenous fatty acids, contributing to their sensitivity/resistance to inflammatory effects.

The computational analyses, molecular dynamics of fatty-acid transport mechanism to the CD36 receptor

Jihane Akachar et al.

Summary: In this study, molecular dynamics simulations were used to investigate the impact of mutations and conformational changes in CD36 protein on its functionality and stability. The Lys164 residue was found to play an important role in fatty acid uptake and provided a structural basis for the dissociation of palmitic acid. Additionally, simulations revealed two fatty acid holes in the CD36 cavity structure, which were crucial for CD36 structure stabilization.

Emodin inhibits lipid accumulation and inflammation in adipose tissue of high-fat diet-fed mice by inducing M2 polarization of adipose tissue macrophages

Fang Yu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that emodin inhibits obesity by promoting M2 macrophage polarization, thereby alleviating inflammation, improving insulin levels, and preventing fat accumulation in adipose tissue.

Effect of Cholesterol Versus Ergosterol on DPPC Bilayer Properties: Insights from Atomistic Simulations

Azadeh Alavizargar et al.

Summary: Sterols, particularly cholesterol, play a major role in the organization of biological membranes and the formation of liquid ordered domains in lipid mixtures. Molecular dynamics simulations show that cholesterol has a stronger impact on phospholipid properties compared to ergosterol, likely due to its higher planarity in the ring system.
