Effect of cone section combination form on the separation performance of a biconical hydrocyclone

Lanyue Jiang et al.

Summary: The optimization of cone section structure is crucial for improving the separation performance of hydrocyclones, and the combination of multiple cone angles has more advantages than a single cone angle. In this study, CFD technology was used to simulate a biconical hydrocyclone with different cone section combinations. The influence of the combination form on internal multiphase flow motion was analyzed, and the effects of the structural parameters of double-cone hydrocyclone on separation efficiency were explored. The results showed that changing the cone section transition diameter could decrease the cut size, increase the total separation effectiveness, and improve the accuracy of separation.

Mini-hydrocyclone performance enhancement in removing small-size microplastics using flocculants

Yao Liu et al.

Summary: Using flocculants can improve the removal efficiency of mini-hydrocyclones, with the addition of flocculants increasing the removal efficiency by 14% and the concentration ratio by 0.24. The optimum performance is achieved with a medium dosage of flocculant concentration and an initial pH of 3 and 9, as well as a moderate inlet feed velocity.

Geometrical configuration of hydrocyclone for improving the separation performance

Duanxu Hou et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of hydrocyclone structure on flow field characteristics and separation performance, and proposes three novel hydrocyclones based on traditional types. The results show that different hydrocyclone structures have different impacts on separation performance, and hydrocyclones with a flat-bottom structure can reduce the misplacement of fine particles.

Development of an integrated multichannel inlet for improved particle classification in hydrocyclones

Qiang Zhao et al.

Summary: The study developed an integrated multichannel inlet design for hydrocyclones, which significantly improves flow field symmetry, reduces short-circuit flow and circulation flow, and provides strong particle separation effects. Compared to traditional designs, the novel spiral inlet exhibits superior classification performance, including smaller cut-size, higher cut sharpness, and higher capacity.

Effects of Wall Roughness on the Separation Performance of Hydrocyclones under Different Inlet Conditions

Qiang Zhao et al.

Summary: Wall roughness is a crucial factor in the manufacture and operation of hydrocyclones, with small roughness deemed acceptable while large roughness can significantly deteriorate performance. The roughness affects pressure-kinetic energy conversion, leading to changes in air core diameter, particle distribution, and separation efficiency. Despite potentially superior results under equal pressure conditions, the adverse effects of wall roughness cannot be completely eliminated.

Comprehensive Dense Slurry CFD Model for Performance Evaluation of Industrial Hydrocyclones

Teja Reddy Vakamalla et al.

Summary: Hydrocyclone separators in mineral processing industries are often operated at high feed solids content, presenting challenges for accurate prediction using current CFD models. A dense slurry CFD model with ASM correction is used to simulate fluid-particle and particle-particle interactions, with fine particle-corrected viscosity modeling. The model shows accurate performance predictions in smaller hydrocyclones, with slight deviations observed at higher solids content and successfully predicting roping phenomena in a larger hydrocyclone.

Numerical analysis of the effect of solid rod on the flow field and separation performance of thick-walled overflow pipe hydrocyclone

Feng Li et al.

Summary: The hydrocyclone is a common equipment for solid-liquid separation, but it has shortcomings such as short-circuit flow and air core. Researchers have proposed methods to improve the separation performance, such as changing the structure of the overflow pipe and introducing a thick-walled overflow pipe design. These improvements have shown promising results in reducing short-circuit flow and enhancing separation accuracy.
