Production rate of multi-fractured wells modeled with Gaussian pressure transients

Ruud Weijermars

Summary: This study introduces new pressure transient solutions to quantify the temporal and spatial propagation of instantaneous pressure changes in porous media. By applying Darcy's Law, the fluid flux can be directly computed and a production-forecasting model can be generated for various fluid injection/extraction projects. Unique for GPT solutions is the absence of well rate as an input, making it applicable for different types of projects.

Hydraulic diffusivity estimations for US shale gas reservoirs with Gaussian method: Implications for pore-scale diffusion processes in underground repositories

Ruud Weijermars et al.

Summary: This paper presents unified Gaussian solutions for spatial diffusion transients triggered by changes in pressure, molecular mass concentration, and temperature. It quantifies the diffusion of pressure into the reservoir space and derives a decline curve fitting formula based on the Gaussian pressure transient. The computed hydraulic diffusivities of shale gas plays indicate that the empirical diffusion rates in shale are similar or faster than the laboratory rates. The implications for gas recovery and nuclear waste disposal in shale formations are discussed.

Gaussian Decline Curve Analysis of Hydraulically Fractured Wells in Shale Plays: Examples from HFTS-1 (Hydraulic Fracture Test Site-1, Midland Basin, West Texas)

Ruud Weijermars

Summary: This study demonstrates the application of new Gaussian solutions to model pressure depletion in reservoirs produced by hydraulically multi-fractured well systems. The study discusses three practical application modes and shows the effectiveness of Gaussian DCA as a history matching tool for production forecasting. Gaussian PTA is used to infer the variation in effective fracture half-length, while GRM accurately predicts production rates of hydraulically fractured well systems and models reservoir depletion.

Diffusive Mass Transfer and Gaussian Pressure Transient Solutions for Porous Media

Ruud Weijermars

Summary: This study revisits the mathematical equations for diffusive mass transport in different dimensions and clarifies misunderstandings about the probability of random-walk solutions. It applies the regular probability solution for molecular diffusion to pressure diffusion in porous media, introducing a Gaussian pressure transient solution method for spatial resolution in reservoirs. This method can efficiently quantify the advance of pressure transients in various scenarios and lays the groundwork for advanced reservoir simulations.
