Summary: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is linked to persistent impairments in various domains. The severity of injury may affect the risk of impairments, with moderate-severe TBI associated with cognitive dysfunction and mild TBI associated with anxiety disorders. This study compared the temporal profile of functional deficits in locomotion, cognition, and anxiety up to 12 months post-injury in an experimental model of TBI. The results suggest altered aging effects on locomotor activity and decreased anxiety over time after mTBI. There were no significant findings on spatial memory or imaging. Further studies are needed to assess persistent behavioral deficits and neuroimaging changes post-TBI.

Sucrose Preference Test as a Measure of Anhedonic Behavior in a Chronic Unpredictable Mild Stress Model of Depression: Outstanding Issues

Summary: Despite numerous studies, the etiological and pathophysiological mechanisms of depression are still poorly understood. Chronic unpredictable mild stress is the most commonly used model, while the sucrose preference test is commonly used for assessing anhedonia. However, the reproducibility of the model and the relationship between animal and human anhedonia need further investigation.
