Honey Bee Diversity Is Swayed by Migratory Beekeeping and Trade Despite Conservation Practices: Genetic Evidence for the Impact of Anthropogenic Factors on Population Structure

Mert Kukrer et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of migratory beekeeping, replacement of queens and colonies on the genetic structure of honey bee populations in Turkey. The findings suggest that migratory beekeeping leads to genetic mixing in honey bee populations, while bee trade results in high levels of introgression. Establishing conservation sites with limited gene flow is crucial for maintaining genetic diversity in Turkish honey bees.

Isolation, characterization, and bio-insecticidal efficiency of Ethiopian isolates of Bacillus thuringiensis against Galleria mellonella L. (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) and tomato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae)

Amha Gebremariam et al.

Summary: A total of 31 Bacillus thuringiensis isolates were obtained from soil samples, with 20 showing bio-insecticidal activity against Galleria mellonella larvae. These isolates displayed high insecticidal potential against Bemisia tabaci nymphs and Galleria mellonella larvae, and showed optimal growth rates in a wide temperature range, making them important candidates for insecticidal toxin studies.
