Fracture surface topography investigation and fatigue life assessment of notched austenitic steel specimens

Wojciech Macek et al.

Summary: The study investigates the fracture surface topography of X8CrNiS18-9 austenitic stainless-steel specimens for different loadings and notch radii, aiming to supplement the knowledge about fracture mechanisms for fatigue performance. A fracture surface topography fatigue damage model is proposed based on the correlation between stress amplitude and fracture topography characteristics. The predictions are close to the experimental results.

Effects of Shot Peening and Cavitation Peening on Properties of Surface Layer of Metallic Materials-A Short Review

Aleksander Swietlicki et al.

Summary: This paper reviews shot peening methods and analyzes their effects on the surface properties of metallic components. It also highlights the need to research the effects of peening, especially cavitation peening, on the anti-wear and corrosion performance of additively manufactured metallic materials. The paper emphasizes the lack of research on the treatment of additively manufactured metallic materials in cavitation peening and the absence of studies combining shot peening and cavitation peening in one hybrid process.

Correlation analysis of roughness surface height distribution parameters and maximum mises stress

Yang Duo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between height distribution parameters and interface contact stress, analyzing their influence under different loads using various methods. The results showed that the order of influence of the height distribution parameters on surface contact stress was Sq > Ssk > Sku, and the impact of Ssk and Sku gradually decreased with increasing load. Additionally, the influence of Ssk and Sku on the contact performance varied among different roughness surfaces. The research findings provide a reference and technical support for the active design of rough surface microstructures to improve contact performance.

Parametric description of one-process surface texture

Pawel Pawlus et al.

Summary: There is a problem with selecting areal parameters to describe surface texture, and analyzing the linear correlation between parameters can help in this selection process. By measuring and analyzing surface topographies after various machining treatments, sets of parameters that describe different surface groups were determined. It was found that specific parameters can be used to identify the machining process, and certain pairs of parameters better characterize the distribution of surface texture.

Rough Surface Characterization Parameter Set and Redundant Parameter Set for Surface Modeling and Performance Research

Duo Yang et al.

Summary: Among the 26 roughness parameters in ISO 25178 standard, the parameters used to characterize surface performance lack scientificity and unity, leading to confusion in their application. A new method is proposed to divide these parameters into characterization parameter sets (CPS) and redundant parameter sets (RPS), and establish mapping relationships between them. The research shows that CPS is of great significance for surface performance and has the ability to fully cover surface topography information.

Jinyuan Tang et al.

Summary: Surface roughness parameters are crucial for grinding surface performance. Traditional rough surface modeling methods cannot control the defined features accurately. This research proposes a novel numerical reconstruction method that utilizes a specific rough parameter set (SRPS) and employs a neural network for inversion, achieving numerical reconstruction of grinding surfaces.

On the linear transform technique for generating rough surfaces

Lin Li et al.

Summary: The linear filtering model is commonly used to control the areal autocorrelation function (AACF), but it has limitations in handling anisotropic surfaces and cross-textured surfaces. A new AACF constraint function is proposed in this paper, which can reconstruct isotropic, anisotropic, and cross-textured surfaces more accurately and efficiently. Numerical experiments show that the proposed constraint function improves the fit for isotropic and anisotropic surfaces, but there are still errors for cross-textured surfaces, suggesting room for further improvement in the linear filtering model.
