Correlation of Nasal Mucosal Temperature and Nasal Patency-A Computational Fluid Dynamics Study

Richard Tjahjono et al.

Summary: Recent evidence suggests that nasal mucosal temperature is the primary factor determining the perception of nasal patency. This study investigates the role of nasal mucosal temperature in nasal patency perception using in vivo and computational fluid dynamics measurements. The results indicate that lower nasal mucosal temperature and higher heat flux in the anterior nasal cavity are associated with improved unilateral nasal patency in healthy individuals.

The role of normal nasal morphological variations from race and gender differences on respiratory physiology

Reanna Shah et al.

Summary: This study analyzes anatomical and airflow-induced relationships in the nasal airway based on nasal morphological variations due to inter- and intra-racial differences and gender. Results show significant differences in nasal airspace surface area and volume between males and females. The study also reveals variations in nasal volume and surface area among different ethnic groups. However, these anatomical variabilities may not significantly affect nasal function.

Role of nasal vestibule morphological variations on olfactory airflow dynamics

Ryan M. Sicard et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of nasal vestibule morphological variations on airflow volume at the olfactory recess in healthy subjects. The results showed that the Standard nasal vestibule phenotype had the highest olfactory airflow volume, with significant differences in olfactory resistance between patients with different unilateral phenotypes.
