Hierarchical porous metal organic framework aerogel for highly efficient CO2 adsorption

Guodong Zhao et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a nanoporous HKUST-1 aerogel with hierarchical pore structure by combining HKUST-1 and aramid nanofiber, which exhibits enhanced CO2 adsorption capacity. The aerogel shows low density, high specific surface area, and high hierarchical porosity, resulting in high CO2 adsorption capacity and selectivity. This novel design provides a reliable theoretical and experimental basis for the development of MOF aerogel as a candidate for CO2 adsorbent in environmental purification.

New-Generation Anion-Pillared Metal-Organic Frameworks with Customized Cages for Highly Efficient CO2 Capture

Yongqi Hu et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new generation of anion-pillared metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) that can be used for capturing CO2 from flue gas. The optimized design of TIFSIX-Cu-TPA shows high CO2 capacity, excellent CO2/N-2 selectivity, high thermal and chemical stability, and moderate adsorption heat for easy regeneration. Breakthrough experiments under various process conditions demonstrate the practical separation performance of the synthesized MOFs, achieving highly selective separation and sustained outstanding performance even under high humidity and multiple process cycles. In situ CO2 dosed single crystal structure and theoretical calculations reveal the molecular mechanism of CO2 adsorption in MOFs, highlighting the presence of two separate binding sites for CO2 in small and large cages, contributing to the high performance of the newly designed MOFs.

Flexible nanofibrous membranes of dual metallic metal-organic framework with enhanced Lewis basic sites and high loading mass for efficient CO2 capture

Guodong Zhao et al.

Summary: Excessive CO2 emissions and global warming pose significant challenges to the environment and human health. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have potential for CO2 capture, but low loading mass and limited compatibility with substrates hinder their effectiveness. In this study, flexible Zn/Co-ZIF nanofibrous membranes (NFMs) were prepared using an electrospinning-assisted in-situ synthesis dual metallic framework strategy, achieving high loading mass of MOFs and increasing CO2 adsorption. The dual metallic Zn/Co-ZIF NFMs exhibited remarkable features, including high MOF loading mass, specific surface area, porosity, and CO2 adsorption capacity, as well as excellent stability and durability.

Summary: We propose a facile method to design a p-n heterostructure photocatalyst for efficient visible light-driven hydrogen production. The intimate coupling between metal-organic framework-derived carbonaceous materials and ZnIn2S4 nanosheets facilitates charge transfer and inhibits electron-hole recombination, leading to fast reaction kinetics at the heterointerface. The catalysts show high H-2 yield and long-term stability, attributed to their enhanced light absorption capacity, conductivity, and charge separation ability.

A comprehensive review on the application of aerogels in CO2-adsorption: Materials and characterisation

Leila Keshavarz et al.

Summary: In recent years, greenhouse gases, especially CO2, have been released into the atmosphere in increasing quantities due to industrial emissions and combustion activities, contributing to surface temperature rise and global climate changes. Aerogels are considered promising adsorbents for CO2 capture because of their tunable surface chemistry and appropriate textural properties. Further research is needed on low-cost materials and production processes to explore the commercial feasibility of aerogels as CO2 capture adsorbents.
