Machine learning-supported seismic stratigraphy of the Paleozoic Nubia Formation (SW Gulf of Suez-rift): Implications for paleoenvironment-petroleum geology of a lacustrine-fan delta

Mohammad A. Abdelwahhab et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the sedimentary facies analysis of the Paleozoic Nubia clastics in the West Esh El Mallaha Concession (southwest Gulf of Suez rift), employing various disciplines such as sequence stratigraphy, seismic stratigraphy, GR-log motifs, and seismic waveform segmentation to depict reservoir heterogeneity and quality. Organic maturity prediction is also crucial in confirming hydrocarbon charging from source units to reservoir intervals. A 1D basin model was established to define past geologic events and their controls on sedimentary basin evolution and petroleum potential. The interdisciplinary approach used in this study successfully characterizes ancient environments and their hydrocarbon potential. The results indicate that the Nubia Formation was deposited during the lowstand-transgressive phase of a 3rd order depositional sequence and contains significant reservoir facies in the form of fluvial channels and mouth bars. The high-quality reservoir facies of the deltaic mouth bars should be considered for further oilfield development plans in similar settings. Overall, the importance of this study is rated as 8/10.

3D petroleum reservoir modelling using seismic and well-log data to assess hydrocarbon potential in Abu Roash (G) Member, Karama Oil Field, North-Western Desert, Egypt

Mahmoud Mamdouh et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the Upper Cretaceous Abu Roash (G) Member in the Karama Oil Field and highlights its importance as a reservoir in the Abu Gharadig Basin. Through the development of a three-dimensional reservoir model and the analysis of seismic lines and well logs, the characteristics and properties of this member have been determined. The study reveals multiple normal faults that contribute to the accumulation of oil and identifies two new prospect areas with good petrophysical parameters. The estimated Original oil in place (OOIP) is significant, making it crucial for future development plans in the area.

Hydrocarbon potential and reservoir characteristics of incised-valley transgressive sandstones: A case study of the Messinian gas reservoirs (Nile Delta Basin, Egypt)

Mohamed I. Abdel-Fattah et al.

Summary: This study assesses the reservoir properties of incised-valley sandstones in the Nile Delta Basin gas fields. The findings show that extensional faults played a significant role in the deposition of the sandstones, and the northernmost portion of the study area exhibits the most promising location for gas exploitation. The sandstones exhibit a fining upward trend with a relatively clean composition, and petrophysical investigations indicate favorable reservoir conditions. The presence of well-connected channels within the estuarine sandstones enhances reservoir productivity.

The upper cretaceous carbonate sediments of the Ras Budran Field, Gulf of Suez, Egypt: stacking patterns and depositional controls

Abdelhamid M. Salman

Summary: This study interprets the carbonate stacking patterns in the Upper Cretaceous strata of the Ras Budran Field in the Gulf of Suez, Egypt, based on well logging and geological analysis. Three types of electro-facies were identified, indicating different depositional settings. The evolution of the carbonate stacking patterns is mainly influenced by sea-level fluctuations and tectonic events within the basin.
