Age and sex associate with outcome in older AML and high risk MDS patients treated with 10-day decitabine

Jacobien Hilberink et al.

Summary: Treatment choice remains challenging for older patients with AML and high risk MDS. Performance status, comorbidities, and physical functioning have varying impact on survival. Age and sex, but not comorbidities or physical functioning, are associated with overall survival in older patients treated with decitabine. The genetic profiles differ between male and female patients.

Comorbidities and malignancies negatively affect survival in myelodysplastic syndromes: a population-based study

Johanne Rozema et al.

Summary: This population-based study focused on the overall survival of patients diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome in Friesland between 2005 and 2017. The study found that multiple comorbidities, including previous malignancies, were associated with shorter overall survival. Additionally, neither radiotherapy nor chemotherapy use was related to overall survival.

Prognostic effect of gender on outcome of treatment for adults with acute myeloid leukaemia

Peter H. Wiernik et al.

Summary: Conflicting reports in the literature about survival rates in AML patients of different genders led to a study examining the impact of gender on 3546 newly diagnosed patients, including 548 with APL. The study found that female AML patients had better overall survival than males, and gender was considered an independent prognostic variable.
