Educational capital/level and its association with precarious work and social vulnerability among youth, in EU and Greece

Nikos Papadakis et al.

Summary: Employability is crucial for life chances, but is affected by economic crises. Both the labor market and working conditions have been greatly impacted by the back-to-back crises in the last decade and the beginning of the new one, including the 2008 economic crisis and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. This paper explores the association between educational capital, precarious work, and social vulnerability among youth, with a focus on the Greek case. It raises issues related to the correlation between educational capital/level and precarious work, socio-economic inequalities reproduced through education, the role of skills mismatch in employment status and prospects, and the parameters and characteristics of precarious employment and its impact on young people's lives.
