Cooperative Palladium/Bronsted Acid Catalysis toward the Highly Enantioselective Allenylation of β-Keto Esters

Henning J. Loui et al.

Summary: This study reports the first enantioselective allenylation of Pd enolates enabled by cooperative Pd/Bronsted acid catalysis using beta-keto esters and propargyl alcohols. The enantioselectivity is solely derived from a chiral metal enolate generated in-situ in an open transition state, with no additional binding of the propargyl component to the catalyst. A broad substrate scope was established, providing previously inaccessible products with high yields and excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99:1 e.r.).

Cooperative Palladium/Isothiourea Catalyzed Enantioselective Formal (3+2) Cycloaddition of Vinylcyclopropanes and α,β-Unsaturated Esters

Jacqueline Bitai et al.

Summary: A new method for the enantioselective synthesis of substituted vinylcyclopentanes has been developed using cooperative palladium and isothiourea catalysis. Functionalized cyclopentanes can be synthesized with good yields and stereocontrol by intermolecular cycloaddition between reactive intermediates.

Achiral Cp*Rh(III)/Chiral Lewis Base Cooperative Catalysis for Enantioselective Cyclization via C-H Activation

Takumaru Kurihara et al.

Summary: In this study, a new method for achieving enantioselective [4+3] cyclization through C(sp(2))-H activation is described. A cooperative catalytic system consisting of a Cp*Rh(III) complex and a chiral Lewis base is used to successfully generate a variety of benzolactam products. The results demonstrate the importance of chiral Lewis base catalysis in controlling the enantioselectivity of transition metal-catalyzed C-H functionalizations.

Isothiourea-catalyzed formal enantioselective conjugate addition of benzophenone imines to β-fluorinated α,β-unsaturated esters

Jerson E. Lapetaje et al.

Summary: The isothiourea-catalyzed formal enantioselective conjugate addition of 2-hydroxybenzophenone imine derivatives to alpha,beta-unsaturated para-nitrophenyl esters has been developed, producing a range of beta-imino ester and amide derivatives in moderate to good isolated yields with excellent enantioselectivity. Electron-withdrawing substituents within the alpha,beta-unsaturated ester component are required for good product yield.

Generation and Reactivity of C(1)-Ammonium Enolates by Using Isothiourea Catalysis

Calum McLaughlin et al.

Summary: Ammonium enolates are powerful synthetic intermediates generated catalytically using isothiourea Lewis base organocatalysts, and have been applied in selective alpha-functionalisation reactions with various precursors. Their utility in intra- and intermolecular C-C and C-X bond forming processes with electrophiles is showcased using different catalyst turnover approaches.

Chiral Cobalt(III) Tris(1,2-diamine) Catalysts That Incorporate Nitrogenous Base Containing Anions for the Bifunctional Activation of Nucleophiles and Electrophiles in Enantioselective Addition Reactions

Connor Kabes et al.

Summary: The lipophilic diastereomeric cobalt complexes catalyze enantioselective C-H bond addition reactions with aliphatic tertiary amines. Incorporating different bases into counter anions can lead to highly enantioselective bifunctional catalysts, where salts of nicotinates and related compounds have been found effective. The 6-aminonicotinate salt gives the best results among the tested bases.
