Cu interfaced Fe/Pt multilayer with improved (001) texture, enhanced L10 transformation kinetics and high magnetic anisotropy

Shubham Kumar et al.

Summary: Enhanced L10 ordering kinetics, improved crystallographic texturing in [001] direction, and high magnetic coercivity of about 6 kOe are observed in L10 ordered Fe(1-x)CuxPt films after successive isochronal vacuum annealing of multilayer structures. GIXRD measurements validate the onset of L10 ordering and the presence of high degree of ordering. GIXRD measurements also confirm the texturing of the magnetic easy axis [001] in the out of film plane direction. The addition of Cu and the annealing temperature have systematic effects on the structural and magnetic properties of Fe(1-x)CuxPt films, leading to enhanced kinetics and texturing effects of L10 FePt.

Margariti Gjoka et al.

Summary: This study examines the potential replacement of Sm in SmCo5 permanent magnet material with more abundant rare earth elements such as Ce and La. The materials with the new stoichiometry show slight changes in structure and magnetic properties, but offer significantly lower cost. Atomistic simulations based on Density Functional Theory calculations provide further insights into the complex interactions that govern the magnetic properties.

Emerging Opportunities in Manufacturing Bulk Soft-Magnetic Alloys for Energy Applications: A Review

Andrew B. Kustas et al.

Summary: Soft-magnetic alloys have exceptional functional properties and are widely used in electromagnetic applications. Traditional manufacturing methods have been well-established, but recent developments in process metallurgy have allowed for the direct production of bulk soft-magnetic alloys with improved structure-property relationships. This review provides an overview of emerging manufacturing approaches for soft-magnetic alloys, including severe plastic deformation, melt spinning, powder-based methods, and additive manufacturing, and compares them with conventional methods. Future research directions and perspectives are also discussed.

Disclosing the Nature of Asymmetric Interface Magnetism in Co/Pt Multilayers

Adriano Verna et al.

Summary: In this study, advanced spectroscopic and imaging techniques were used to investigate the origin of the asymmetric magnetic proximity effect in ferromagnetic/heavy metal multilayers. The researchers found that the microstructural features at the interfaces, which are influenced by the film deposition process, correlate with the different magnetic moments induced at the Co/Pt interfaces. This work provides insights into the understanding of magnetic properties in complex heterostructures and their practical applications.

X-ray diffraction reinvestigation of the Ni-Pt phase diagram

Anton A. Popov et al.

Summary: The Ni-Pt phase diagram was corrected using powder X-ray diffraction data in the range of 15-85 at.% Pt and in the temperature range of 400-525 degrees C. Nanocrystalline particles (nanoalloys) were used as initial samples to reduce the time required to reach equilibrium, and in situ phase transformations at high temperatures were studied by X-ray diffraction. The positions of single-phase regions in the Ni1-xPtx (A1), Ni3Pt (L1(2)), NiPt (L1(0)), NiPt3 (L1(2)) systems were corrected.

Physico-magnetic properties and dynamics of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (MNPs) under the effect of permanent magnetic fields in contaminated water treatment applications

Pietro P Falciglia et al.

Summary: This study modeled and experimentally studied the dynamic behavior of magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) released in a water flow under an external magnetic field. The physical and magnetic properties of MNPs and their tendency to form aggregates were investigated. The study found that MNPs have shorter trajectories in flow regions farther from the duct walls, where frictional forces are lower. The study also showed that MNPs can be attracted even in regions with a weak magnetic field. Additionally, the size of MNP aggregates significantly affects particle dynamics, but does not greatly impact overall removal efficiency for aggregate diameters larger than 1.2 mu m.

Physico-magnetic properties and dynamics of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (MNPs) under the effect of permanent magnetic fields in contaminated water treatment applications

Pietro P. Falciglia et al.

Summary: This study conducted a modelling and experimental research on the dynamic behavior of magnetite nanoparticles released in water flow under an external magnetic field, revealing that the attraction of MNPs is possible even in regions with weak magnetic fields. The size of particle aggregates significantly influences their dynamics, but for aggregate diameters larger than 1.2 μm, the removal efficiency remains high.

Structural and magnetic properties of iodide-mediated chemically synthesized L12 FePt3 nanoparticles

Vimal Deepchand et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the use of elemental iodine as a halide intermediary facilitates the formation of FePt3 nanoparticles with the L1(2) structure, compared to the mostly disordered fcc FePt3 structure when iodine is not used. Annealing of the nanoparticles leads to an increased particle size and a transformation to the ordered L1(2) FePt3 phase.

Perpendicularly magnetized Co/Pd-based magneto-resistive heterostructures on flexible substrates

M. Hassan et al.

Summary: Flexible magneto-resistive heterostructures with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy have not been studied extensively, despite the potential for additional functionality and improved performance. This study successfully prepared flexible PMA Co/Pd-based GMR spin-valve stacks using an innovative transfer-and-bonding strategy, overcoming limitations associated with direct deposition on polymer substrates. The resulting flexible spin-valves exhibit a sizeable GMR ratio and high robustness against bending, allowing for integration on curved surfaces and the development of advanced devices based on flexible magneto-resistive structures with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.
