Recent Advances for the Synthesis and Applications of Two- dimensional Ternary Layered Materials

Jing Peng et al.

Summary: Layered materials with unique structures and symmetries have attracted great interest due to their ability to be easily isolated into ultrathin nanosheets with exotic properties and diverse applications. Extensive progress has been made in the field of ternary layered materials, leading to the discovery of many new materials and expanding the members of the 2D realm. This review summarizes recent advances in the synthesis and exploration of ternary layered materials, focusing on their stoichiometric ratios, interlayer interactions, compositional and structural characteristics, as well as their applications in electronics, optoelectronics, and energy storage and conversion.

Even-Odd-Layer-Dependent Ferromagnetism in 2D Non-van-der-Waals CrCuSe2

Jing Peng et al.

Summary: In this study, a new 2D ferromagnetic material, CuCrSe2 nanosheets with even-odd-layer-dependent ferromagnetism when laminated from an antiferromagnetic bulk, is reported. Monolayer and even-layer CuCrSe2 exhibit the anomalous Hall effect and a significantly enhanced magnetic ordering temperature, while the odd-layer samples exhibit the linear Hall effect. Theoretical calculations suggest that the layer-dependent magnetic coupling is attributable to the orbital shift of the Cr atoms in the CrSe2 layers due to the Cu-induced breaking of the centrosymmetry.

Adsorption Tuning of Polarity and Magnetism in AgCr2S4 Monolayer

Ranran Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the structure, magnetic and ferroelectric properties of the exfoliated monolayer AgCr2S4 have been investigated using density functional theory. The results show that the monolayer AgCr2S4 exhibits two-dimensional ferromagnetism and loses bulk polarity due to the emergence of centrosymmetry upon two-dimensional confinement. Surface adsorption has a nonmonotonic effect on the ionic conductivity while having little impact on the layered magnetic structure.

Orbital Effects in Solids: Basics, Recent Progress, and Opportunities

Daniel Khomskii et al.

Summary: The paragraph discusses the complex interactions of different degrees of freedom in transition metal compounds, highlighting the unique phenomena observed in systems with orbital degeneracy and emphasizing novel quantum effects. It also explores the reduction of effective dimensionality in systems with orbital degrees of freedom and the role of relativistic spin-orbit interaction in relation to traditional Jahn-Teller physics. Special attention is paid to discussing novel quantum effects throughout the review.
