Work-Family Conflicts and Perceived Fairness of Housework Division in Dual-Earner Couples During COVID-19

Summary: This study examined the associations between work-family conflict and housework division for dual-earner couples during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings revealed bidirectional relationships between changes in work-family conflict and perceived fairness of housework division. Additionally, husbands' traditional gender attitudes amplified the associations between increased work-family conflict and the perception of unfairness in housework division.

Unpaid Work and Care During COVID-19: Subjective Experiences of Same-Sex Couples and Single Mothers in Australia

Summary: This study found that during the pandemic, nonheterosexual fathers had more positive subjective experiences with unpaid work and care compared to heterosexual fathers, while differences between heterosexual mothers and lesbian/bisexual mothers were more complex. Single mothers reported feeling more satisfied with their balance of work and life during the pandemic compared to their partnered counterparts, potentially due to avoiding partner conflicts and benefiting from relaxed commuting and child care deadlines.

The role of culture in the gendered division of domestic labor: Evidence from migrant populations in Europe

Summary: This study uses the "epidemiological approach" to analyze gender division of housework among international migrants, finding that when either the man or woman comes from a gender-traditional cultural background, there is a more equal division of household labor in couples. This cultural impact is consistent across destination countries and is only partially influenced by parental background, but diminishes among second generations.
