This study shows that the top 10% of the world population emitted almost half of the total greenhouse gas emissions in 2019, while the bottom 50% only emitted 12%. The inequality in individual emissions is now mainly driven by the gap between low and high emitters within countries. Furthermore, the majority of emissions from the global top 1% come from their investments rather than their consumption.

A systematic literature review focused on recent progress in residential NZEBs is lacking, making this work aiming to provide references and support for wider and more successful implementation of residential NZEBs worldwide. The discussed categories include energy infrastructure connections like electrical grids and energy storage options, renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, and energy-efficiency measures like improved building designs and efficient HVAC systems. This paper highlights technology options to achieve residential NZEBs globally.

Negligible impacts of early COVID-19 confinement on household carbon footprints in Japan
