Predictors of psychological resilience trajectories in patients with knee arthroplasty: A longitudinal study

Yawei Shan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify different classes of total knee arthroplasty patients based on their trajectories of psychological resilience and investigate the predictors for different patterns of resilience. The results showed that surgery was the major stressor influencing patients' psychological resilience and that low-resilience patients needed intervention. High level of hope, higher education, living in urban areas, and having more children were predictors of the high-resilience class, while low levels of self-efficacy and hope, living in semirural areas, and having more children were predictors of the low-resilience class.

Single-Stage Externalized Locked Plating for Treatment of Unstable Meta-Diaphyseal Tibial Fractures

Biser Makelov et al.

Summary: This prospective clinical study aimed to investigate and evaluate the clinical and functional outcomes of single-stage externalized locked plating for unstable proximal and distal meta-diaphyseal tibial fractures. The results showed that this treatment method provided adequate stability of fixation with good clinical outcomes and no complications.

Association between socioeconomic status and joint replacement of the hip and knee: a population-based cohort study of older adults in Tasmania

Ishanka P. Munugoda et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and time to total hip replacements (THR) and total knee replacements (TKR). The findings suggest that participants with a higher SES had a longer time to THR compared to those with a lower SES. However, this association may be mediated by factors such as pain and radiographic osteoarthritis.

Understanding barriers and facilitators of exercise adherence after total-knee arthroplasty

Nora Bakaa et al.

Summary: This qualitative study aimed to understand the barriers and facilitators of post-surgical exercise adherence in patients undergoing TKA. Results identified personal and environmental characteristics such as self-regulation, exercise knowledge, post-operative complications, comorbidities, social support, and lack of guidance from health care providers that influence exercise adherence within the WHO framework. Future research should focus on understanding the impact of factors, particularly the health care system, on exercise adherence.

Inconsistent interactions between the seductive details effect and ego depletion in multimedia learning

Zhe Wang et al.

Summary: Multimedia learning consists of a sequence of tasks that may influence learning outcomes. This study examines the interaction between the theory of ego depletion in task sequencing and the seductive details effect, and finds that ego depletion may not always significantly influence learning.

From Ego Depletion to Self-Control Fatigue: A Review of Criticisms Along With New Perspectives for the Investigation and Replication of a Multicomponent Phenomenon

Cyril Forestier et al.

Summary: The replication crisis in psychology has raised questions about popular phenomena like ego depletion. This paper examines limitations in the existing literature and proposes potential solutions. It argues that the focus on only two out of several auxiliary hypotheses in the theoretical level has prevented a comprehensive evaluation of the ego-depletion theory. At the experimental level, the lack of a clear definition of self-control, confusion between ego depletion and mental fatigue, and low validity of inducing tasks may explain the low replicability of ego-depletion studies. The paper concludes with conceptual and methodological suggestions for a more rigorous investigation of ego depletion, including the use of the term "self-control fatigue."

The common sense model of illness self-regulation: a conceptual review and proposed extended model

Martin S. Hagger et al.

Summary: The study proposes an extended version of the common sense model of illness self-regulation to explain how lay perceptions of health threats impact coping responses and health-related outcomes. The extended model provides detailed information on how individuals represent and cope with health threats, potentially informing effective illness management interventions.

Mental workload of frontline nurses aiding in the COVID-19 pandemic: A latent profile analysis

Yawei Shan et al.

Summary: This study found that nurses aiding in the most affected area during the COVID-19 pandemic in China had high self-evaluations of their performance under extremely intensive task loads. Three latent subtypes of nurses were identified: 'low workload & low self-evaluation', 'medium workload & medium self-evaluation', and 'high workload & high self-evaluation'. Junior nurses in the 'low workload & low self-evaluation' subtype require more attention to their work pressure and psychological well-being.

Resilience and pain catastrophizing among patients with total knee arthroplasty: a cohort study to examine psychological constructs as predictors of post-operative outcomes

Vesta C. Nwankwo et al.

Summary: This study showed that preoperative resilience predicts postoperative knee function and general physical health in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA), even after adjusting for pain catastrophizing and other variables. Focus on preoperative mental health and resilience interventions may improve physical function outcomes for TKA patients.

Enhanced Recovery After Primary Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty A Systematic Review

Aidan T. Morrell et al.

Summary: The study systematically reviewed the effect of ERAS after primary elective total hip arthroplasty (THA) or total knee arthroplasty (TKA), showing that ERAS can significantly reduce hospital length of stay and have a modest effect on procedure-related morbidity, but no significant impact on readmission rates.

The Impact of Psychological Factors and Their Treatment on the Results of Total Knee Arthroplasty

Gregory S. Kazarian et al.

Summary: Psychosocial factors such as anxiety, depression, kinesiophobia, central sensitization, and pain catastrophizing may negatively impact patients' outcomes following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Patients with higher preoperative indices of kinesiophobia and central sensitization are likely to report worse outcomes postoperatively. Cognitive-behavioral therapy and medication treatment may help attenuate the negative impact of these preoperative comorbidities.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association of depression and anxiety with self-management and self-efficacy in patients with pre-ESRD, finding that depression negatively impacted high self-management and high self-efficacy, while education level of senior high school or above had a positive effect on high self-management and high self-efficacy.
