Assessment of natural population and regeneration dynamics of Pinus gerardiana in dry temperate region of north western Himalaya

Om Prakash et al.

Summary: Chilgoza pine is a multipurpose, endemic and near-threatened species in the Himalayan region. Its population is declining rapidly due to over exploitation and habitat degradation, with poor natural regeneration. Regular monitoring is needed to understand its population dynamics, considering its ecological and economical importance for the local community.

Plant-soil-microbe interactions in maintaining ecosystem stability and coordinated turnover under changing environmental conditions

Muhammad Aqeel et al.

Summary: Ecosystem functions depend on reactions occurring at the soil-microbe-plant interface, which can be influenced by environmental changes, especially thermal and water stress. Climate change affects plant and microbial performance, diversity, and community structure, as well as the interactive relationship between plants and soil microbes. Assessing the effects of climate change on soil microbes and plants is crucial for understanding the broader impacts on ecosystems.

Species Diversity, Growing Stock Variables and Carbon Mitigation Potential in the Phytocoenosis of Monotheca buxifolia Forests along Altitudinal Gradient across Pakistan

Fayaz Ali et al.

Summary: The sub-tropical broadleaved forests in Pakistan play a vital role in the global carbon cycle, and Monotheca buxifolia is an important component of these forests. This study investigated the forest structure, biomass carbon stock, and altitudinal gradient in Pakistan's Monotheca forests, and found that lower elevations had higher species richness and vegetation diversity. The biomass carbon stock of the forests was highest at low altitudes.

Slope aspect effects on plant community characteristics and soil properties of alpine meadows on Eastern Qinghai-Tibetan plateau

Qi-peng Zhang et al.

Summary: Slope aspect has a significant impact on the characteristics of plant communities and soil physical and chemical properties in alpine meadows. There are significant differences in plant functional groups and plant diversity among different slope aspects. The physical and chemical properties of the soil vary with the slope aspect and are significantly correlated with plant functional groups and plant diversity.

Do environmental variables and overstory communities affect the spatial pattern of understory vegetation? Lessons from Monotheca buxifolia (Falc.) A. DC. forests in Pakistan

Fayaz Ali et al.

Summary: This study investigated the diversity and composition of understory vegetation in old-growth Monotheca buxifolia dominated forests in Pakistan and examined the effects of environmental variables and overstory stand structure. The results revealed that elevation, aspect, soil properties, and tree canopy structure were closely related to the spatial pattern of understory vegetation. These findings are significant for forestry resources management and the restoration and conservation plans for understory vegetation in the region.

QUANTITATIVE DESCRIPTION, PRESENT STATUS AND FUTURE TREND OF CONIFER FORESTS GROWING IN THE INDUS KOHISTAN REGION OF KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA, PAKISTAN

Adam Khan et al.

Summary: The study quantitatively analyzed conifer forests in Indus Kohistan to determine the current status and future trends. Different species showed varied density, basal area, and size class distribution in different sampling sites. The findings indicate low regeneration potential and rapid deforestation in the region, calling for urgent protection measures.

Do Anthropogenic Activities Affect Floristic Diversity and Vegetation Structure More Than Natural Soil Properties in Hyper-Arid Desert Environments?

Ethar A. Hussein et al.

Summary: The study assessed the impact of long-term anthropogenic pressure on the current floristic and ecological status of an unprotected area in comparison to a protected one in Egypt. Human activities caused vegetation degradation, species loss, and decline in plant richness, with the protected area showing the highest species richness value.
