Distributed and individualized computation offloading optimization in a fog computing environment

Keqin Li

Summary: This paper explores computation offloading optimization in a competitive fog computing environment using game theory. The main contributions include formulating a non-cooperative game with players as UEs and MECs, developing heuristic algorithms for determining best responses, and proving convergence to a Nash equilibrium. Numerical examples demonstrate quick convergence to equilibrium, with a unique strategy set and payoff function based on combinatorial optimization.

Mobility-Aware and Code-Oriented Partitioning Computation Offloading in Multi-Access Edge Computing

Yaqin Liu et al.

Summary: Multi-Access edge computing (MEC) enables less resourceful smart mobile devices (SMDs) to use computation and memory intensive applications by offloading them to edge servers. However, mobility in MEC can significantly influence offloading strategy and overhead, making it difficult to handle precedence among subtasks. To address this, we propose a cost-saving offloading policy with mobility prediction using convex optimization and Lagrangian approach. Our scheme helps moving SMDs in MEC efficiently complete their tasks and analyzes the impact of task dependency on completion time. Experimental results demonstrate significant performance improvement compared to other methods.

Server configuration optimization in mobile edge computing: A cost-performance tradeoff perspective

Zhenli He et al.

Summary: This study investigates the optimization of server configuration in an MEC environment by treating each edge server as an M/M/m queueing model and establishing performance and cost models. Two optimization problems based on cost and performance constraints are formulated and solved using fast numerical algorithms to help service providers achieve different goals. Extensive numerical simulation examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms in controlling the tradeoff between investment cost and service quality for MEC service providers.
