Effects of modified Huangqi Chifeng decoction on the IL-17 signaling pathway in an IgA nephropathy rat model

Sijia Ma et al.

Summary: Based on animal experiments, this study found that the modified Huangqi Chifeng decoction (MHCD) has therapeutic effects on immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), including reducing urine protein levels, improving renal pathological injury, and reducing inflammation levels. This finding contributes to further understanding the mechanism of action of MHCD for IgAN treatment.

Role of the Gut Microbiome in the Development of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease

Ahmad Al Samarraie et al.

Summary: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is the leading global cause of death, with 9 million deaths directly attributed to ischemic heart diseases in 2020. Efforts have been focused on primary and secondary prevention strategies by identifying and treating major cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, smoking, and sedentary lifestyle. The gut microbiota, once overlooked, has been found to play a crucial role in ASCVD development through direct contribution to atherosclerosis and indirect involvement in cardiovascular risk factors. Important gut metabolites like trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), secondary bile acids, lipopolysaccharides (LPS), and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) have been associated with the extent of ischemic heart diseases. This paper reviews the latest evidence on the impact of the gut microbiome on ASCVD incidence.

Single Treatment of Vitamin D3 Ameliorates LPS-Induced Acute Lung Injury through Changing Lung Rodentibacter abundance

Ai Jin et al.

Summary: Short-term vitamin D3 supplementation effectively alleviates inflammation in acute lung injury (ALI) by preventing the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, changes in microbiota composition observed were also influenced by short-term vitamin D3 treatment.

Berberine alters gut microbial function through modulation of bile acids

Patricia G. Wolf et al.

Summary: The plant-based nutraceutical Berberine (BBR) has been shown to have significant effects on the structure and function of the gut microbiome, particularly through altering bile acid profiles and promoting specific bacterial responses and common functionalities. This indicates that BBR may have targeted effects on the gut microbiota.

The roles of liver X receptor α in inflammation and inflammation-associated diseases

Lin Zhao et al.

Summary: Liver X receptor alpha (LXRα), a member of the nuclear receptor family, plays crucial roles in controlling cholesterol homeostasis and inflammatory responses. Activation of LXRα exerts metabolic and anti-inflammatory actions, suggesting its potential as a pharmacological target for inflammatory diseases. The tight relationship between LXRα and inflammation provides promise for future research and therapeutic approaches.

Targeting inflammation in atherosclerosis - from experimental insights to the clinic

Oliver Soehnlein et al.

Summary: Inflammation plays a substantial role in atherosclerosis and targeting inflammatory pathways could provide a promising new avenue to prevent and treat the disease. Clinical studies have shown that modulation of inflammation can help prevent the clinical complications of atherosclerosis. Refining strategies for combatting inflammation in the disease is crucial for further progress in managing atherosclerotic risk.

The Role of Gut Microbiota on Cholesterol Metabolism in Atherosclerosis

Margaret Vourakis et al.

Summary: Hypercholesterolemia plays a causal role in atherosclerosis development and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The microbiota may be involved in metabolic and inflammatory processes related to various diseases. Microbial derived metabolites are crucial for cardiovascular health but dysregulation can contribute to CVD.

Impact of Gut Microbiota and Microbiota-Related Metabolites on Hyperlipidemia

Xiaokang Jia et al.

Summary: Hyperlipidemia, characterized by excess fat or lipids in the bloodstream, is a high-risk factor for metabolic diseases. The gut microbiota and microbiota-related metabolites play crucial roles in the development and progression of hyperlipidemia. Various interventions targeted at the gut microbiota, such as prebiotics, probiotics, and fecal microbiota transplantation, have shown efficacy in treating hyperlipidemia.
