Effects of Alhagi Honey Polysaccharides as Feed Supplement on Intestine Function and Microbiome, Immune Function, and Growth Performance in Chicken

Gaofeng Cai et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Alhagi honey polysaccharides (AH) can significantly improve the growth performance and immune organ index of chickens, regulate the content of sIgA and cytokines in the intestine, enhance the intestinal epithelial barrier, increase CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells, promote the production of short chain fatty acids, and improve the structure of gut microbiota. AH-1.2g/kg was found to be the best dosage for improving chicken health, suggesting that AH has the potential to enhance growth performance by improving intestinal function, immunity, and gut microbiome in chickens.

The combined impact of xylo-oligosaccharides and gamma-irradiated astragalus polysaccharides on the immune response, antioxidant capacity, and intestinal microbiota composition of broilers

Q. Wang et al.

Summary: The combination of XOS and IAPS can enhance intestinal mucosal immunity and barrier function in broilers by increasing cytokine gene expression, IgA-producing cell production, and modulating cecal microbiota. Additionally, the combination effect of XOS and IAPS is superior to the individual effects of CTC, XOS, or IAPS in the current study.

The relationship among avian influenza, gut microbiota and chicken immunity: an updated overview

Mohamed E. Abd El-Hack et al.

Summary: The alimentary tract in chickens plays a crucial role in immune cell formation and challenges, and the gut microbiota has a vital impact on immune responses against viral infections. The interaction between pathogenic microorganisms and the host commensal microbiota, as well as the diversity and integrity of gut microbiota, are important factors in maintaining health and preventing diseases in chickens.

Withdrawal of antibiotic growth promoters in China and its impact on the foodborne pathogen Campylobacter coli of swine origin

Renqiao Wen et al.

Summary: Antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) have been widely used in animal feed to improve efficiency, but their use has led to antibiotic-resistant pathogens and posed a threat to food safety and public health. China banned the use of AGPs in animal feed from 2020, but the effects of this ban on foodborne pathogens and antibiotic resistance have not been fully understood. This study found that after the ban, the isolation rate of Campylobacter, a foodborne pathogen, slightly increased and there was a significant increase in antibiotic resistance and virulence genes. It also showed the potential transmission of antibiotic-resistant Campylobacter from pigs to humans.

Modulation of intestinal morphology and microbiota by dietary Macleaya cordata extract supplementation in Xuefeng Black-boned Chicken

Songchang Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that adding Macleaya cordata extract (MCE) to diet can improve intestinal morphology and reduce crypt depth in the jejunum. Supplementing with 200 mg/kg MCE modulated intestinal microbiota, increasing beneficial bacteria like Lactobacillus. However, adding 100 mg/kg MCE to diet increased bacterial community diversity in the jejunum and ileum, but had no effect on cecum microbial diversity.
