Experimental and computational study on utilising graphene oxide for adsorption cooling and water desalination

Handsome Banda et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermal and sorption characteristics of graphene oxide as an adsorbent material in adsorption systems, with the aim of addressing the issues of sustainable cooling and clean water scarcity. Compared to silica gel adsorbent, graphene oxide improves the system's adsorption performance, daily water production, and cooling power.

Experimental studies on solar assisted activated carbon based adsorption refrigeration system

Ashok Kumar et al.

Summary: Refrigeration and air conditioning are essential in both domestic and industrial sectors, but their traditional technologies cause environmental issues. Adsorption refrigeration systems, utilizing low heat source temperatures, have gained importance for their eco-friendliness. However, research on adsorption refrigeration in India is limited. This study experimentally investigated the performance of a solar-assisted double bed adsorption refrigeration system using activated carbon and methanol as the working pair. Results showed that the system was able to produce cold even with a low-temperature heat source.

Experimental and predictive study on the performance and energy consumption characteristics for the regeneration of activated alumina assisted by ultrasound

Xinzhu Mou et al.

Summary: The experiment showed that ultrasonic-assisted regeneration can reduce the unit energy consumption and improve the moisture adsorption of activated alumina. The theoretical analysis revealed the enhanced mechanism caused by ultrasound. Predictive results from neural networks can be used to optimize the energy-saving effect of regeneration process.

Modeling and Simulation of Combined Heat and Mass Transfer in Zeolite SAPO-34 Coating for an Adsorption Heat Pump

Imen Amari et al.

Summary: Research shows that the performance of an adsorption heat pump is influenced by both heat and mass transfer, with solely enhancing heat transfer not enough to achieve high specific cooling power. In the case of the water vapor/SAPO-34 pair, mass transfer significantly impacts the duration of the cooling step, which should be shortened to increase specific cooling power. Enhancing mass transfer inside porous adsorbent is the sole way to achieve this goal.

Experimental evaluation of a solar two-bed lab-scale adsorption cooling system

Mahmoud B. Elsheniti et al.

Summary: A lab-scale two-bed adsorption chiller driven by solar energy was designed, constructed, and experimentally evaluated, achieving a specific cooling capacity of about 75 W/kg and a coefficient of performance of 0.42 under specific operating conditions. Effects of adsorption/desorption times and chilled water temperatures on the chiller performance were investigated.
