Behavioral predictors of household food-safety practices during the COVID-19 pandemic: Extending the theory of planned behavior

Raisa Moreira Dardaque Mucinhato et al.

Summary: This study examined predictors of food-mishandling behavior in households during the COVID-19 pandemic using the extended theory of planned behavior (TPB). The results showed that attitude, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms positively influenced the intention to implement safe food-handling practices, with stronger effects observed for attitude and perceived behavioral control. Despite food-safety knowledge not directly impacting intention, it had a positive effect on other TPB factors, along with perceived risk. These findings suggest that public-health crises can lead to changes in consumer behavior related to food safety.
