Assessing the Effect of Extreme Weather on Population Health Using Consumer-Grade Wearables in Rural Burkina Faso: Observational Panel Study

Evaluating the 35°C wet-bulb temperature adaptability threshold for young, healthy subjects (PSU HEAT Project)

Summary: This study for the first time uses empirical physiological observations to examine the widely-publicized theoretical limit of 35 degrees C wet-bulb temperature for human adaptability to extreme environments. It found that uncompensable heat stress in humid environments occurs at wet-bulb temperatures significantly lower than 35 degrees C in young, healthy adults. Additionally, the study shows that uncompensable heat stress occurs at widely different wet-bulb temperatures depending on ambient vapor pressure.

Effects of sex and wet-bulb globe temperature on heart rate variability during prolonged moderate-intensity exercise: a secondary analysis

Summary: This study examined the impact of sex and environmental heat stress on heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) during prolonged exercise. The findings suggest that in healthy non-heat-acclimatised individuals, women have a greater increase in HR during prolonged exercise-heat stress, while cardiac vagal autonomic modulation remains equal or increases compared to men. Further research on the sex differences in HRV is needed.

Rising temperatures erode human sleep globally
