Acceptability of family planning in a changing context in Uganda: a realist evaluation at two time points

Summary: Family planning is a human right and ensuring women's access to it is crucial for protecting the health and well-being of mothers and children. Over the past two decades, Ethiopia has significantly increased its contraceptive prevalence rate from 8% in 2000 to 41% in 2019, thanks to overall development, investment in education, reduction in child marriage, and implementation of enabling policies and strategies. To achieve universal access to sexual and reproductive health care services, including family planning, by 2030, Ethiopia needs to enhance government policies and programs, increase financial resources, strengthen public-private partnerships, and improve service delivery for hard-to-reach populations and those in humanitarian crisis. However, regional and sociodemographic disparities and low-quality service delivery remain challenges in Ethiopia's progress.

Postabortion Family Planning and Associated Factors Among Women Attending Abortion Service in Dire Dawa Town Health Facilities, Eastern Ethiopia

Summary: This study aimed to determine the utilization of postabortion family planning and associated factors among women attending abortion service in Dire Dawa health facilities, Eastern Ethiopia. The results showed that more than three-fourths of the respondents utilized postabortion family planning, and factors such as age, education level, marital status, income, parity, desire of current pregnancy, and previous use of family planning were significantly associated with the utilization of postabortion family planning.

The study findings provide insights into how and for whom the intervention works, allowing for a level of abstraction through linking empirical mechanisms with theoretical frameworks of implementation.

The unmet needs for modern family planning methods among postpartum women in Sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review of the literature

Individual and facility-level factors associated with women's receipt of immediate postpartum family planning counseling in Ethiopia: results from national surveys of women and health facilities

Summary: Despite the relatively widespread availability of IPPFP services in Ethiopia, receipt of IPPFP counseling remains low. Disparities in IPPFP counseling were found among first-time mothers, women who have never used contraception, women who delivered vaginally, and those who did not receive delivery care from a doctor or health officer. As facility births continue to rise in Ethiopia, efforts are needed to ensure equitable and high-quality IPPFP services for all women.
