Zero-valent Ni/NiO core-shell nanosheets supported on graphene for highly efficient dye adsorption: Isotherm, kinetic and thermodynamic study

Badr M. Thamer et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel composite material ZVNiNiO@Gr was successfully fabricated by a single-step method and used for the removal of crystal violet dye (CV) from contaminated water. The unique structure of the composite, with two-dimensional core-shell nanosheets supported on graphene layers, limited the agglomeration effect and enhanced the adsorption sites. The adsorption capacity of the composite was found to increase with temperature and exhibited better performance in alkaline media. The adsorption data was well fitted by the Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous, endothermic, and physical. The research shows promising potential for the treatment of wastewater from the textile industry.

Highly selective and reusable nanoadsorbent based on expansive clay-incorporated polymeric nanofibers for cationic dye adsorption in single and binary systems

Badr M. Thamer et al.

Summary: Fabrication of nanoadsorbents with excellent adsorption capacity, selectivity, easy separation, and superior reusability for removing organic dyes from polluted water remains challenging. In this study, novel expansive clay/polyvinyl alcohol nanofibers (clay/PVA NFs) were fabricated as sheet-membranes using an electrospinning technique. The clay/PVA NFs showed improved adsorption performance for crystal violet dye (CV) removal, as well as outstanding reusability and selectivity for separating CV dye from various binary dye systems. The results suggest that clay/PVA NFs are a promising adsorbent for removing CV dye from complex wastewater.
