Venous External Support in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Marco Gemelli et al.

Summary: This review aims to evaluate the angiographic outcomes of externally supported vein grafts and the preventive effect of using VEST(R) on neointimal hyperplasia and lumen irregularities. Randomized clinical trials published by August 2022 were systematically reviewed using Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library. The primary outcome was graft failure, while secondary outcomes included graft ectasia, intimal hyperplasia area and thickness, and graft nonuniformity. Odds ratios (OR) and mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were pooled using a fixed-effects model. Three randomized controlled trials involving 437 patients were included with varying follow-up periods.

External stenting and disease progression in saphenous vein grafts two years after coronary artery bypass grafting: A multicenter randomized trial

David P. Taggart et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of external stents on the progression of saphenous vein graft disease. The results showed that external stenting improved the patency scales of saphenous vein grafts and significantly reduced intimal hyperplasia area and thickness.

External Support for Saphenous Vein Grafts in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery A Randomized Clinical Trial

Daniel J. Goldstein et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact of external vein graft support devices on intimal hyperplasia did not reach statistical significance, but the overall mortality and major cardiac or cerebrovascular event rates were similar to other coronary artery bypass trials. Further investigation is needed to assess the effect of external support devices on long-term graft patency and clinical outcomes.

Risk-of-bias VISualization (robvis): An R package and Shiny web app for visualizing risk-of-bias assessments

Luke A. McGuinness et al.

Summary: Despite the availability of numerous software options for evidence synthesis, there is currently no universal tool for generating figures to display and explore risk-of-bias assessments. However, tools such as the R programming environment and Shiny have made it easy to create new tools for producing evidence syntheses. The new tool robvis facilitates the rapid production of publication-quality risk-of-bias assessment figures and is available as an R package and web app.
