Recent progress of organic scintillators

Masanori Koshimizu

Summary: This review discusses recent developments in organic scintillators from a materials science perspective. It covers the design and crystal growth of organic crystalline scintillators, the use of novel solvents and solutes in liquid scintillators, and the development of plastic scintillators based on novel polymer hosts or fluorescent molecules. It also examines the development of loaded liquid or plastic scintillators using molecules or nanoparticles. The review emphasizes the need for improving scintillation light yields through materials design and highlights future prospects in this field.

Effects of Excitation Density on the Scintillation Properties of Organic-Inorganic Layered Perovskite-type Compounds

Masanori Koshimizu et al.

Summary: The scintillation properties of organic-inorganic layered perovskite-type compounds were analyzed using pulsed beams with different linear energy transfers (LETs). The decay was slower at higher LETs, possibly due to competition between radiative process and trapping at nonradiative sites, while faster decay was attributed to the interaction of excited states. The compound (C6H5C2H4NH3)2PbBr4 showed the most pronounced LET dependence, with the highest radiative rate and luminescence quantum efficiency among the compounds studied, indicating a significant influence of excited state interactions on the radiative process at higher LETs.

Novel radio-photoluminescence materials and applications

Go Okada

Summary: Radio-photoluminescence (RPL) is a phenomenon where a new luminescent center is generated in a material by the interaction of ionizing radiation. New RPL materials have been proposed for radiation measurements, with Sm-based RPL being one of the most intensively studied alternative systems, showing potential applications in areas such as microbeam radiation therapy.
