Application of magnetic carbon nanotube composite nanospheres in magnetic solid-phase extraction of trace perfluoroalkyl substances from environmental water samples

Xin-Li Song et al.

Summary: The layer-by-layer assembly technique was used to synthesize novel multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on magnetic carbon (Fe3O4@C) nanospheres, which were then used to extract six perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in environmental real water samples using ultra high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry. The as-synthesized sorbent MWCNTs@Fe3O4@C was employed for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE). The as-prepared MWCNTs@Fe3O4@C showed wide linear ranges, low detection limits and good repeatability for the extraction and detection of PFAS in water samples, making it a promising material for environmental analysis.

Evaluation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in bottled water samples (non-carbonated, mineral, carbonated and carbonated flavored water) in Tehran with MSPE-GC/MS method: a health risk assessment

Gholamali Sharifiarab et al.

Summary: This study measured the levels of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in bottled water samples in Tehran using magnetic solid-phase extraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (MSPE/GC-MS). The results showed that the PAH levels in the samples were lower than the US-EPA standard, with carbonated flavored water having the highest PAH levels and mineral water having the lowest. The cancer risk analysis indicated that the bottled waters studied did not pose a serious concern to humans.

Trends in Agricultural Triazole Fungicide Use in the United States, 1992-2016 and Possible Implications for Antifungal-Resistant Fungi in Human Disease Comment

Mitsuru Toda et al.

Summary: The use of triazole fungicides in the United States has increased significantly from 2006 to 2016, particularly in Midwest and Southeast states. This increase is correlated with the emergence of triazole-resistant infections caused by A. fumigatus. Chemical similarities between fungicides and antifungal drugs may contribute to the development of triazole resistance, emphasizing the need for enhanced monitoring and strategies to mitigate resistance.
