A comparative study of the effects of two alkanolamines on cement hydration

Zichen Lu et al.

Summary: The effects of two alkanolamines, TEA and DEIPA, on cement hydration were investigated and compared using various techniques. The results show that the types and dosages of alkanolamines significantly alter the cement hydration regime, primarily through their impact on the aluminate reaction.

Formulation of an alkali-free accelerator and its effects on hydration and mechanical properties of Portland cement

Yifei Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of an alkali-free accelerator (AMD) on the hydration and mechanical properties of Portland cement. It is found that AMD accelerator can effectively shorten the setting time and enhance the early strength of Portland cement. Though it may retard the early hydration of alite and lead to higher porosity, it has no negative impact on the long-term strength development and may even slightly increase it.

Accelerators for normal concrete: A critical review on hydration, microstructure and properties of cement-based materials

Yifei Wang et al.

Summary: This paper reviews different types of accelerators used in normal concrete and discusses their effects on hydration, microstructure, and properties of cement-based materials. The use of accelerators can promote rapid setting and hardening of concrete, but most accelerators have negative effects on the durability of concrete. The incorporation of supplementary cementitious materials and chemical admixtures is a feasible approach to mitigate these negative effects.

Effect of diethanolisopropanolamine and ethyldiisopropylamine on hydration and strength development of Portland cement

Yifei Wang et al.

Summary: The effects of DEIPA and EDIPA at different dosages on cement hydration and strength development were studied. Both DEIPA and EDIPA accelerated the hydration of cement, but higher dosages significantly decreased early strength and caused pore structure degradation. EDIPA exhibited higher hydration degree at later ages compared to DEIPA.

Investigating the hydration characteristics of a new composite cementitious binder containing of slag and calcite

Chuang Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of filler content, filler fineness, and water to powder ratio on the hydration kinetics and microstructure behavior of a clinker-free material. The experimental results show that the reaction degree of slag is enhanced by increasing the filler content and fineness, but the improvement in hydration degree is not significant when the water to powder ratio is low. It is also found that hemicarboaluminate can stably form even at the later age of hydration reaction in the presence of calcium carbonate.

Accelerators for shotcrete - Chemical composition and their effects on hydration, microstructure and properties of cement-based materials

Yifei Wang et al.

Summary: Accelerators are commonly used in shotcrete to accelerate setting and hardening processes of cement-based materials. They can promote early strength but may have negative effects on long-term strength, shrinkage, and durability. Combining with reinforcements, supplementary materials, and chemical admixtures is a feasible approach to overcome these negative effects.
