Research on user experience of the video game difficulty based on flow theory and fNIRS

Summary: This study investigates the difference in reaction between video game players and non-video game players during the entire process of playing video games and the moment of game difficulty changes, using cognitive control and flow theory as a starting point and functional near-infrared spectroscopy technology. The Influence of Media Capabilities on Knowledge Contribution in Online Communities

We developed a theoretical model that examines how different communication capabilities influence user commitment, individual growth, and knowledge contribution in online communities. Our results show that direct user-to-user interaction has a stronger influence on knowledge contribution than knowledge repositories.

Pursuing virtual perfection: Preoccupation with failure mediates the association between internalized parental criticism and gaming disorder

Summary: The study examines the roles of perfectionism and reactions to failure in gaming disorder. Parental perfectionism may predispose players to gaming disorder through internalized perfectionism and maladaptive reactions to failure. Hungarian gamers completed a survey measuring perfectionism, reactions to failure in gaming, and gaming disorder. The study found that parental criticism was associated with over-engagement with failure via self-critical perfectionism, and higher parental expectations were associated with disengagement from failure through narcissistic perfectionism. The model explained a substantial proportion of gaming disorder variance, indicating the importance of parental criticism and self-critical perfectionism in ruminative responses to failure in gaming.

Academic stress and first-/third-person shooter game addiction in a large adolescent sample: A serial mediation model with depression and impulsivity

The study suggests the need for a standardized framework to investigate the impact of technological shifts, evolving smartphone usage patterns, and behavioral effects.

From skill growth expectancy to online game commitment
