Cardiorespiratory coupling strength in athletes and non-athletes

Raphael Martins de Abreu et al.

Summary: This study assessed the cardiovascular dynamics and cardiorespiratory coupling (CRC) during postural challenge in athletes and non-athletes using joint symbolic analysis (JSA). The JSA analysis identified higher CRC strength at rest in athletes and a more reactive autonomic control in athletes during postural challenge, indicating the presence of nonlinear components in the relationship between heart period and respiratory movements.

Cardiorespiratory Coupling is Associated with Exercise Capacity in Athletes

Raphael M. Abreu et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the cardiorespiratory coupling (CRC) of athletes at rest and its relationship with exercise capacity. The results showed that CRC is associated with physical exercise capacity in athletes, suggesting new possibilities for improving exercise performance.

Factors that affect heart rate variability following acute resistance exercise: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Sajith U. Marasingha-Arachchige et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the effect of acute resistance exercise (ARE) on heart rate variability (HRV) parameters. The analysis found that ARE results in the activation of cardiac sympathetic modulation and withdrawal of cardiac parasympathetic modulation. These changes are more prominent in individuals engaging in high-intensity exercise. The study also identified that the number of sets, exercise intensity, and rest between sets affect HRV parameters, while gender, body mass index, and training status do not have an impact.

Cardiorespiratory coupling is associated with exercise capacity in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Summary: This study investigated the cardiorespiratory interactions in COPD patients using the synchrogram index, and found that patients can be classified into synchronized and desynchronized groups. The results showed that cardiorespiratory coupling is associated with exercise capacity in COPD patients.

Summary: The study demonstrates that high-intensity inspiratory muscle training benefits inspiratory muscle strength, endurance, and peak power in recreational cyclists, but does not provide additional gains compared to moderate intensity IMT.
