Gravitational corrections to electroweak vacuum decay: metric vs. Palatini

Ioannis D. Gialamas et al.

Summary: This article investigates the impact of nonminimal coupling between gravity and the Higgs field on the stability of the electroweak vacuum. By analyzing the gravitational corrections in both the metric and Palatini formulations of gravity, it is found that the suppression effect of gravity on vacuum decay probability is weaker in the Palatini formalism compared to the metric case, and a lower bound of xi > -1/12 is required for the positivity of gravitational corrections.

Borel resummation of secular divergences in stochastic inflation

Masazumi Honda et al.

Summary: We employ Borel resummation to extract the exact time dependence from divergent series arising in stochastic inflation. By considering correlation functions of self-interacting scalar fields in de Sitter spacetime, we demonstrate that Borel resummation can interpret the divergent series and accurately infer the time evolution of the correlation functions. We implement a method called Borel-Pade resummation, where we approximately evaluate the Borel transformation using a Pade approximant, and we also discuss the singularity structures of Borel transformations and their potential applications in cosmology.

Electroweak baryogenesis in aligned two Higgs doublet models

Kazuki Enomoto et al.

Summary: In this study, the baryon number abundance based on the charge transport scenario in the CP-violating two Higgs doublet model is evaluated. It is found that the observed baryon number can be reproduced in this model, with additional Higgs boson masses typically ranging from 300 to 400 GeV.

Freeze-in from preheating

Marcos A. G. Garcia et al.

Summary: This article investigates the production of dark matter during the process of reheating after inflation. By comparing perturbative and non-perturbative calculations of energy density and considering the instability of final state scalar products, the resulting relic density based on different approaches is compared. It is shown that the present-day cold dark matter density can be obtained through freeze-in from preheating for a large range of dark matter masses.

Gravitational wave and electroweak baryogenesis with two Higgs doublet models

Ruiyu Zhou et al.

Summary: We investigate stochastic gravitational wave production and baryon number generation during the electroweak phase transition using the two Higgs doublet models. The stochastic gravitational waves produced during a strongly first-order phase transition can be detected by future space-based interferometers. However, the nonlocal electroweak baryogenesis fails to explain the observed Baryon asymmetry of the Universe in the parameter spaces of strongly first-order phase transition due to the severe constraint imposed by the measurement of the electron electric dipole moment by ACMEII.

Stochastic formalism for U(1) gauge fields in axion inflation

Tomohiro Fujita et al.

Summary: In this study, we develop a stochastic formalism for U(1) gauge fields coupled with a rolling pseudo-scalar field during inflation. We derive the Langevin equations for the physical electromagnetic fields and study their analytic solutions. Through numerical simulation, we demonstrate that the averaged electromagnetic fields over the Hubble scale continuously change their direction and fluctuate around the analytically obtained expectation values. While the isotropy is spontaneously broken in each local Hubble patch, it is globally preserved by averaging all the Hubble patches.

Boltzmann or Bogoliubov? Approaches compared in gravitational particle production

Kunio Kaneta et al.

Summary: This article discusses the minimal contribution of gravitational particle production to reheating the Universe after inflation. The study compares two different approaches, the Boltzmann equation and the Bogoliubov transformation. While the Boltzmann equation allows for computation based on quantum field theory, the Bogoliubov approach deals with particle production beyond perturbation theory, considering the effect of curved spacetime. Numerical and analytical computations show consistent results for particle production with large momenta during reheating, while the Boltzmann approach cannot calculate particle production during inflation. Analytical approximations of the scalar spectrum with/without mass in the low momentum regime are provided using the Bogoliubov approach.

New benchmark scenarios of electroweak baryogenesis in aligned two Higgs double models

Kazuki Enomoto et al.

Summary: In this study, electroweak baryogenesis in aligned two Higgs doublet models is discussed with a focus on explaining the observed baryon number in the Universe without contradicting current available data. The evaluation of baryon number based on the WKB method, consideration of all orders of the wall velocity, and investigation of parameter spaces allowed by collider, flavor, and electric dipole moment experiments are key aspects of the research. Benchmark scenarios that can explain the baryon asymmetry of the Universe are identified, along with discussions on how to test these scenarios in future collider experiments, flavor experiments, and gravitational wave observations.

Gravitational portals in the early Universe

Simon Clery et al.

Summary: In this paper, we investigate the production of matter and radiation during reheating after inflation, focusing on gravitational interactions. We consider the exchange of graviton in the scattering of the inflaton or particles in the newly created radiation bath. We analyze the gravitational production of dark matter and radiation, and derive a lower bound on the maximal temperature for a specific scenario. The importance of each process in the production of radiation and dark matter is compared.

Gravitational portals with nonminimal couplings

Simon Clery et al.

Summary: This study considers the effects of nonminimal couplings to curvature and investigates three types of scalars: the Higgs boson, the inflaton, and a scalar dark matter candidate. The study finds that these nonminimal couplings increase the production of dark matter and contribute to the radiation bath during reheating. Additionally, these couplings may also increase the maximum temperature during reheating.

Spontaneous leptogenesis in Higgs inflation

Sung Mook Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, a scenario of spontaneous leptogenesis in Higgs inflation is proposed, with the assistance of two additional operators. These operators contribute to the generation of lepton asymmetry which eventually leads to baryon asymmetry in the universe, all during the rapidly changing Higgs field period. This scenario is compatible with the high reheating temperature of the Higgs inflation model.

A manifestly covariant theory of multifield stochastic inflation in phase space: solving the discretisation ambiguity in stochastic inflation

Lucas Pinol et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the issues in stochastic inflation theory by using Stratonovich discretization satisfying general covariance and identifying the quantum nature of fluctuating fields leading to the existence of preferred frame defining independent stochastic noises. Physically equivalent Ito-Langevin equations are derived which are manifestly covariant and well suited for numerical computations.

Free scalar correlators in de Sitter space via the stochastic approach beyond the slow-roll approximation

Archie Cable et al.

Summary: The stochastic approach to calculating scalar correlation functions in de Sitter spacetime has been extended beyond the overdamped slow-roll approximation. It reproduces the exact asymptotic long-distance behavior of field correlators in free field theory with the correct noise term, demonstrating the viability of the technique. However, the naive way of calculating the noise term by introducing a cutoff at the horizon does not give the correct answer unless the cutoff is specifically chosen to give the required result, which has implications for interacting theories.

Achieving the highest temperature during reheating with the Higgs condensate

Summary: This study focuses on the role of the Standard Model Higgs condensate during the period of reheating after cosmological inflation, showing its significant impact on heating the primordial plasma to higher temperatures. The research also discusses the implications of this hot plasma on the thermalization of the inflaton's decay products, as well as on the formation of cosmological relics like dark matter and the restoration of electroweak and Peccei-Quinn symmetries.
