Nuclear moments of indium isotopes reveal abrupt change at magic number 82

A. R. Vernon et al.

Summary: This article discusses the phenomenon where nuclear properties are governed by a single unpaired nucleon around specific numbers of nucleons, with indium isotopes being a textbook example of this. Precision laser spectroscopy measurements revealed an abrupt change in the dipole moment at N = 82, indicating that the single-particle picture dominates at this neutron magic number, but not for previously studied isotopes.

Bohr-Weisskopf effect: From hydrogenlike-ion experiments to heavy-atom calculations of the hyperfine structure

B. M. Roberts et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the influence of electron screening on the Bohr-Weisskopf effect in many-electron atoms. Relativistic atomic many-body calculations reveal that the electron screening effects are small for s states, with the relative BW correction being approximately the same for hydrogenlike ions and neutral atoms. By introducing an electronic screening factor, we establish a connection between the ground-state BW effect in H-like ions and the BW effect in s and p(1/2) states of neutral and near neutral atoms, thereby enabling more accurate calculations of the BW effect in heavy atoms.

Systematics of E2 strength in the sd shell with the valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group

S. R. Stroberg et al.

Summary: The isospin dependence of the E2 strength underprediction in medium- and high-mass nuclei is evaluated by systematically comparing VS-IMSRG calculations with available literature. It is found that the E2 strength is consistent within certain nuclear shells, and no isovector contribution to the deficiency is identified. The study provides insights into the origin of the missing strength and is important for understanding nuclear physics.

Converged ab initio calculations of heavy nuclei

T. Miyagi et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new storage scheme for three-nucleon interaction matrix elements used in ab initio calculations of atomic nuclei. The scheme significantly reduces the required memory and allows for the generation of interaction matrix elements with improved convergence. The study also explores the impact of truncation and approximation on the ground-state energy.

Ab Initio Limits of Atomic Nuclei

S. R. Stroberg et al.

Summary: This study predicts the limits of existence of atomic nuclei, the proton and neutron drip lines, by utilizing a chiral nucleon interaction and in-medium similarity renormalization group calculations for nearly 700 isotopes. Experimental data confirms that the predictions are consistent with the theoretical uncertainties where the drip lines are known. Predictions for neutron-rich isotopes are provided for testing at rare-isotope beam facilities.

Role of Chiral Two-Body Currents in 6Li Magnetic Properties in Light of a New Precision Measurement with the Relative Self-Absorption Technique

U. Friman-Gayer et al.

Summary: This study reported a direct measurement of the decay width of the excited 0(1)(+) state of Li-6 using the relative self-absorption technique. The experimental value obtained provides low uncertainties for testing modern theories of nuclear forces. Additionally, the transition rate was compared to ab initio calculations based on chiral effective field theory to test the impact of two-body currents.

Moving away from singly-magic nuclei with Gorkov Green's function theory

V Soma et al.

Summary: Ab initio calculations of bulk nuclear properties are presented for seven complete isotopic chains, showing overall good agreement with experimental data, especially for differential energies and charge radii under certain interactions. Neutron magic numbers N=28,32,34 emerge and evolve, but pairing gaps are systematically underestimated, leading to deterioration in theoretical descriptions for certain nuclei.

Hyperfine anomaly in heavy atoms and its role in precision atomic searches for new physics

B. M. Roberts et al.

Summary: Calculations of differential hyperfine anomalies were conducted on atoms and ions of interest in precision atomic tests of the standard model. The nuclear single-particle model showed better agreement with experimental data compared to the uniform ball model, advocating for its use in future studies of hyperfine structure. These results impact uncertainty analyses in atomic structure theory, crucial for interpreting precision atomic measurements, such as atomic parity violation in cesium.

Probing the single-particle behavior above 132Sn via electromagnetic moments of 133,134Sb and N=82 isotones

S. Lechner et al.

Summary: The single-particle behavior of Sb-133 nuclei is highly sensitive to the splitting of spin-orbit partners, while quadrupole moments of N = 82 isotones are insensitive to cross-shell excitations. The isomer in Sb-134 can be accurately described using the additivity rule for magnetic moments.

High-resolution laser spectroscopy of 27-32Al

H. Heylen et al.

Summary: Hyperfine spectra of aluminum isotopes were measured via collinear laser spectroscopy, revealing unknown magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments. The potential decrease in charge radius at N = 19 may be linked to the N = 20 shell closure effect.
