Challenges faced by cancer patients in Uganda: Implications for health systems strengthening in resource limited settings

Summary: The Uganda Cancer Institute is the only comprehensive cancer treatment center in Uganda, with many cancer patients facing challenges in receiving treatment due to poor economic conditions and limited knowledge about their disease and treatment. To improve patient experience, establishing regional cancer centers, ensuring reliable supply of cancer medicines, and integrating navigation programs into cancer care are crucial recommendations. Strengthening the entire health system, particularly in cancer service delivery, should remain a top priority for Uganda and other resource-limited settings.
