All-Cause and Cause-Specific Mortality in Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Haseeb Chaudhary et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis showed a significantly increased risk of overall mortality in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) but not psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients. Cardiovascular-specific mortality was higher for both PsA and AS, which emphasizes the importance of early screening and management of cardiovascular risk factors.

Summary: The validity of clinical ICD-10 diagnoses for PsA in the Swedish NPR is good, with positive predictive values (PPVs) of 69-82% for CASPAR fulfilment and 86% for meeting any established PsA classification criteria.

The Association of Psoriatic Arthritis With All-cause Mortality and Leading Causes of Death in Psoriatic Arthritis

Amir Haddad et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and all-cause mortality using a large population-based database. The results showed no clinically relevant increase in mortality rate among PsA patients, and the proportionate mortality rates were similar to those of the general population.

All-cause and cause-specific mortality in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and axial spondyloarthritis: a nationwide registry study

Anne M. Kerola et al.

Summary: This nationwide registry-based cohort study explored mortality and causes of death among Norwegian patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) compared with the general population. The study found that even in the era of modern treatments, RA and axSpA patients still have a shortened life expectancy. The leading causes of death for all patient groups as well as the general population were cardiovascular diseases, neoplasms, and respiratory diseases.

Summary: The study found that over the past 20 years, standardized mortality rates have decreased for patients with psoriasis and PsA, but still remained significantly elevated compared to the general population. The leading causes of death were cancer, circulatory diseases, and respiratory conditions.

Comorbidities in psoriatic arthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Sonal Gupta et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to describe the prevalence of comorbidities in psoriatic arthritis (PsA), compare their incidence/prevalence between PsA and control populations, and examine their impact on PsA outcomes. The study found that comorbidities, especially cardiometabolic disorders, were highly prevalent in PsA patients and associated with adverse disease features. Further research is needed to understand the impact of comorbidities on long-term outcomes such as treatment response and mortality.

Summary: The study found that the incidence of PsA in a predominantly White US population was stable from 2000 to 2017, in contrast to previous years. However, an increasing proportion of women with PsA was found in this study.
