Acyl ghrelin improves cardiac function in heart failure and increases fractional shortening in cardiomyocytes without calcium mobilization

Lars H. Lund et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of activated ghrelin on patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and ex vivo mouse cardiomyocytes were evaluated. The results showed that ghrelin increased cardiac output, improved contractility of the heart, and had no adverse effects on blood pressure, heart rate, arrhythmias, or myocardial ischemia. Therefore, further research on the therapeutic effects of ghrelin should be explored.

The added value of right ventricular function normalized for afterload to improve risk stratification of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension

Marco Vicenzi et al.

Summary: Our study aimed to investigate the relationship between surrogate echocardiographic markers and risk stratification in patients with PAH. We found that TAPSE/TRV and TAPSE/sPAP were the most powerful markers of prognosis. When added to the COMPERA strategy, TAPSE/TRV or TAPSE/sPAP significantly stratified the intermediate-risk group into intermediate-to-low-risk or intermediate-to-high-risk subgroups. Similarly, TAPSE/TRV or TAPSE/sPAP was able to select patients at lower risk among those with low-risk criteria in both invasive and non-invasive FPHN registries.

New measures of right ventricle-pulmonary artery coupling in heart failure: An all-cause mortality echocardiographic study

Gabriele Pestelli et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the prognostic value of TAPSE x pACT product and TAPSE/TRV ratio as alternative measures of right ventricle-pulmonary artery coupling in heart failure patients, showing that these measures have predictive ability for mortality.
