Selection signatures of Qinchuan cattle based on whole-genome sequences

Sihu Wang et al.

Summary: Qinchuan cattle have undergone gradual improvements in body shape and growth rate through long-term breeding. Whole genome sequencing data revealed candidate genes related to the growth and development traits of Qinchuan cattle, including brain size, body characteristics, and limb development. Other genes were also found to be associated with meat quality, reproductive function, and coat color. These findings provide insights into breed formation and molecular genetic breeding, and can contribute to improving animal production and health.

Genomic and transcriptomic analyses enable the identification of important genes associated with subcutaneous fat deposition in Holstein cows

Hailiang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study aims to identify key candidate genes regulating subcutaneous fat deposition in high-producing dairy cows by integrating genomic and transcriptomic datasets. GWAS and WGCNA are performed to identify genes associated with subcutaneous fat deposition. Differentially expressed genes and overlapping genes are also analyzed. The candidate genes are significantly enriched for pathways involved in metabolism, oxidative phosphorylation, thermogenesis, fatty acid degradation, and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis pathways. NID2, STARD3, UFC1, DEDD, PPP1R1B, and USP21 are considered the most important candidate genes influencing subcutaneous fat deposition traits in Holstein cows.

Identifying Candidate Genes for Litter Size and Three Morphological Traits in Youzhou Dark Goats Based on Genome-Wide SNP Markers

Xiaoyan Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic basis for litter size, coat colour, black middorsal stripe, and skin colour in the Youzhou dark goat population using genome-wide association analysis, selection signature analysis, and ROH detection. Several significant SNPs and candidate genes were identified for litter size, coat colour, and black middorsal stripe, while no SNPs were found for skin colour. Furthermore, enrichment analysis revealed GO terms and a KEGG pathway associated with environmental adaptability and domestication traits. The results provide insights into the genetic mechanisms underlying these traits and offer implications for the conservation and utilization of Chinese goat germplasm resources.

Integrated multi-omics analysis reveals variation in intramuscular fat among muscle locations of Qinchuan cattle

Hengwei Yu et al.

Summary: A combined transcriptome and metabolome analysis revealed that Qinchuan cattle meat has a relatively high intramuscular fat content. CCDC80 and the HOX gene cluster may regulate the deposition of intramuscular adipose tissue. Erucic acid was identified as the main metabolite in Qinchuan beef cattle and its metabolism, regulated by ACOX3, HACD2, and SCD5 genes, affects the accumulation of intramuscular fat.

Identification of crucial circRNAs in skeletal muscle during chicken embryonic development

Pengfei Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, chicken leg muscles at 14 and 20-day embryo ages were collected from fast- and slow-growing groups for RNA-seq analysis, identifying 245 and 440 differentially expressed circRNAs in the comparison groups F14vsF20 and S14vsS20, respectively. GO enrichment analysis revealed that the host genes of DE circRNAs were related to growth processes, such as transcription regulation, metabolic processes, and myofibril assembly. Further analysis identified key host genes and circRNA-miRNA pairs involved in skeletal muscle development in chickens.

Reduced Retinoic Acid Signaling During Gastrulation Induces Developmental Microcephaly

Michal Gur et al.

Summary: Retinoic acid (RA) plays a crucial role in regulating multiple developmental decisions during embryogenesis. Excessive RA leads to head malformations, while reduced RA signaling is linked to syndromes exhibiting microcephaly. This study identifies a novel role of RA signaling in the early formation of the head during gastrula stages and demonstrates the importance of RALDH3 in RA production required for head formation.

Genome-wide association study reveals novel candidate genes for litter size in Markhoz goats

Peyman Mahmoudi et al.

Summary: The Markhoz goat, a breed known for its high-quality mohair, has experienced a significant decline in population size in Iran due to decreased income from goat production. This study aimed to identify genomic regions associated with litter size at birth (LSB) and weaning (LSW) in Markhoz goats using a genome-wide association study (GWAS). The results identified several SNPs on chromosomes 2, 20, and 21 that were significantly associated with LSB, and six candidate genes in the identified region were also identified.
