Nuclear charge radii in Bayesian neural networks revisited

Xiao-Xu Dong et al.

Summary: In this study, a refined Bayesian neural network (BNN) based approach with six inputs, including proton number, mass number, and engineered features associated with various effects, is proposed to accurately describe nuclear charge radii. The new approach shows good performance in describing charge radii of atomic nuclei with A > 40 and Z > 20, with a standard root-mean-square deviation of 0.014 fm for the training and validation data. The predicted charge radii of proton-rich and neutron-rich calcium isotopes also agree well with the data, demonstrating the reliability of the BNN approach.

Deformation Properties and Nuclear Radii ff Hg Isotopes

I. N. Borzov et al.

Summary: Self-consistent calculations of potential surfaces, quadrupole moments, and charge radii are performed for mercury isotopes Hg178-208 using the Fayans energy-density functional method. The study reveals the presence of weakly oblate and strongly prolate isomeric states. The charge radii of all isotopes, except Hg-181, Hg-183, and Hg-185, are predicted with a typical precision of 0.01 fm.

Impact of Nuclear Deformation and Pairing on the Charge Radii of Palladium Isotopes

S. Geldhof et al.

Summary: This study presents a detailed analysis of the relationship between nuclear quadrupole deformation and nuclear size, finding a clear link in palladium isotopes. By measuring and calculating, it is concluded that the strength of pairing correlations has an impact on charge radii and odd-even staggering.

Bulk and decay properties of neutron-deficient odd-mass Hg isotopes near A=185

O. Moreno et al.

Summary: This study describes the ground and isomeric states of the neutron-deficient odd-A isotopes 183Hg, 185Hg, and 187Hg using a microscopic calculation based on a self-consistent, axially deformed Hartree-Fock mean field with the Skyrme functional and pairing within BCS approximation. The results on mean-square charge radii and magnetic dipole moments for different odd-neutron states and equilibrium shapes are analyzed in terms of their sensitivity to nuclear deformation, spin, and parity. Additionally, spin-isospin correlations are introduced to obtain the distributions of Gamow-Teller strength and the beta+/EC half-lives of these isotopes.

Laser Spectroscopy of Neutron-Rich 207,208Hg Isotopes: Illuminating the Kink and Odd-Even Staggering in Charge Radii across the N=126 Shell Closure

T. Day Goodacre et al.

Summary: This study investigates the charge radii of Hg-207 and Hg-208 for the first time and reanalyzes the data of Hg-202, Hg-203, and Hg-206. A characteristic kink in the charge radii at N=126 is discovered, offering insights into its behavior below the Z=82 proton shell closure. A new odd-even staggering mechanism is proposed, suggesting that pairing may not be crucial in explaining the phenomena at N=126.

Large Shape Staggering in Neutron-Deficient Bi Isotopes

A. Barzakh et al.

Summary: The mean-square charge radius, magnetic dipole, and electric quadrupole moments of Bi-187, Bi-188, Bi-189, and Bi-191 were measured using in-source resonance-ionization spectroscopy at ISOLDE (CERN). Significant variations in radius were observed in the ground states of Bi-187, Bi-188, Bi-189(g), with a large isomer shift in Bi-188(m) at neutron number N = 10(5). Experimental results were consistent with mean-field calculations, identifying the ground or isomeric states based on blocked quasiparticle configurations.

Charge radii of exotic potassium isotopes challenge nuclear theory and the magic character of N=32

A. Koszorus et al.

Summary: Nuclear charge radii serve as sensitive probes of the nucleon-nucleon interaction and nuclear matter properties, posing a challenge for nuclear theory. Experimental evidence suggests a new magic neutron number at N=32 in the calcium region, with unexpectedly large increases in charge radii raising questions about nuclear size evolution in neutron-rich systems. Advanced nuclear theories offer different explanations for the odd-even variations and notable increase in charge radii beyond N=28, highlighting limitations in our understanding of neutron-rich systems and issues in current nuclear theory models.

Possible bound nuclei beyond the two-neutron drip line in the 50 ≤ Z ≤ 70 region

C. Pan et al.

Summary: Investigations suggest possible bound nuclei beyond the two-neutron drip line in the Z range of 50 to 70, forming peninsulas of stability in the nuclear landscape. Additionally, multineutron emitters are predicted near these peninsulas. The crucial role of deformation effects in forming these stable peninsulas is highlighted in the study.
