Efficient time-domain approach for hydroelastic-structural analysis including hydrodynamic pressure distribution on a moored SFT

Sung-Jae Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the hydroelastic analysis of a moored SFT (submerged floating tunnel) under wave excitations using the time-domain discrete-module-beam (DMB) method. The hydrodynamic pressure distribution, which includes both wave-induced diffraction pressure and motion-induced radiation pressure, is calculated and applied to the three-dimensional finite element model. The developed numerical approach is validated by comparing with other methods and experiments. The influences of flexural motions and wave conditions on the dynamic pressure distribution and local stresses are also investigated.

Interaction between solitary waves and a combined structure of two concentric asymmetric porous arc walls

Zhenfeng Zhai et al.

Summary: An analytical model based on the linear potential flow theory is developed to study the diffraction problem of solitary wave interaction with a combined structure of two thin concentric asymmetric porous arc walls. The results show that dual-arc walls provide more significant protection than single walls, and cross-placed arc walls offer better protection.

Study of the response characteristics of a spread moored FPSO in the bidirectional sea state

Yucu Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the motion response characteristics of a spread moored FPSO in a bidirectional sea state using numerical simulations. The wave frequency motion responses are found to be dominated by swell, while the low frequency motion responses are contributed by both wind sea and swell. Additionally, the water depth and the presence of a mooring system also affect the motion responses.

Solitary Wave Interaction with a Floating Pontoon Based on Boussinesq Model and CFD-Based Simulations

Sarat Chandra Mohapatra et al.

Summary: This paper formulates a mathematical model to study the interaction between solitary waves and a pontoon-type rigid floating structure, and validates and compares three different models. The results show good agreement among the models, and analyze the effects of various factors on the solitary wave profiles.

Solitary-wave loads on a three-dimensional submerged horizontal plate: Numerical computations and comparison with experiments

Tian Geng et al.

Summary: In this study, a parallelized three-dimensional boundary element method is employed to simulate the interaction between an incoming solitary wave and a submerged horizontal plate. The numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental results, showing that the model successfully captures the main features of the interaction between nonlinear waves and the plate.

Nonlinear hydrodynamics of freely floating symmetric bodies in waves by three-dimensional fully nonlinear potential-flow numerical wave tank

Sung-Jae Kim et al.

Summary: The study estimated the nonlinear hydrodynamic performance of freely floating structures in nonlinear water waves using a three-dimensional, fully nonlinear numerical wave tank. Different methods were adopted to handle the nonlinear free surface, calculation nodes, and spatial derivatives of physical quantities. The numerical wave tank simulations effectively demonstrated the motion and excitation forces of a floating cylinder and validated against experimental observations.

Modeling the motion of large vessels due to tsunami-induced currents

Aykut Ayca et al.

Summary: This paper presents a model developed to predict the behavior of large vessels under tsunami conditions, taking into account the interaction between vessels and flow. The study found that the model can reasonably simulate the flow passing a floating object, while also showing that the flow in port areas is strongly affected by vessels.

The effects of geometrical buoy shape with nonlinear Froude-Krylov force on a heaving buoy point absorber

Sung-Jae Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of buoy shape and Nonlinear Froude-Krylov force (NFK) on a heaving-buoy-type Wave Energy Converter (WEC), finding that conventional linear analyses may overestimate results in high amplitude wave conditions, and employing a latching control strategy at specific wave periods can maximize power extraction efficiency.
