Thermal-Fluid-Solid coupling mechanism of a novel friction reduction cooling structure for gas turbine

Dongbo Shi et al.

Summary: To meet the higher safety design demands of the new generation of gas turbines, this research proposes an integrated method of high-efficiency and low-friction cooling design and Thermo-Fluid-Solid (TFS) coupling analysis. By designing and building a turbine blade rotating cooling experimental system, as well as introducing a novel friction reduction method with a cross bridge structure, the study reveals the friction reduction mechanism and the effect mechanism of the cooling performance on solid strain. The results show significant improvements in heat transfer and strain reduction. (c) 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Experimental study of heat-transfer and pressure-drop performances of a rotating two-pass channel with composite stepped skew ribs and internal effusion

Shyy Woei Chang et al.

Summary: The present study investigates the performance of a rotating two-pass square channel with stepped composite skew ribs and internal effusion. Measurements of the full-field endwall Nusselt number distribution, Fanning friction factor, and aerothermal performance index are conducted at various rotation, Reynolds, and buoyancy numbers. The results show that the rotating channel exhibits improved heat transfer performance compared to the static channel, with increased Nusselt numbers and Fanning friction factors. Empirical correlations are generated to aid in relevant applications.

Effects of varied bend turning vanes on flow control and heat transfer in a smooth two channel

Han Yan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the heat transfer performance and flow field features of two-pass channels with different types of turning vanes. The results show that turning vanes can reduce flow separation and pressure loss, but also lead to a decrease in the Nusselt number in the second passage. Among the turning vanes studied, the semicircular turning vane yields the highest thermal performance factor.

Thermal hydraulic performance augmentation by petal-shaped ribs in a two-pass cooling channel

Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of different rib types on the cooling performance of internal channels through numerical simulation. The results show that the petal-shaped and a-quarter-cylinder ribs have better heat transfer performance and smaller friction factor compared to the normal square rib.

Fluid flow and heat transfer in a rectangular ribbed channel with a hierarchical design for turbine blade internal cooling

Shao-Fei Zheng et al.

Summary: This study proposes a hierarchical design concept to optimize the arrangement of rib turbulators for internal cooling of turbine blades, aiming to reduce pressure loss while maintaining heat transfer performance. Numerical simulations verify the feasibility of the proposed design and demonstrate that the optimized configuration greatly reduces pressure loss with a slight deterioration in heat transfer. The comparison of overall thermal performance shows significant improvement, indicating the potential of the hierarchical design concept in developing high-performance internal cooling of turbine blades.

Similarity characteristics of geometric scaling matrix cooling channels in turbine blade

Zhongyi Wang et al.

Summary: This article explores the similarity characteristics of cooling performance in gas turbine blades and the effects of geometric scaling factor. Numerical simulation and data fitting were used to find that the heat transfer performance and resistance performance increase exponentially with the increase of the scaling factor. Regression equations were established for accurate prediction in engineering applications.

Summary: The study focuses on the thermo-flow analysis of an internal cooling channel with turbulators, using a two-pass rectangular channel with a 180-degree bend. Introducing triangular and semi-spherical protrusions can significantly improve heat transfer rates and reduce pressure drop, with Reynolds number playing a role in the results.
