Effects of pore connectivity and tortuosity on the dynamics of fluids confined in sub-nanometer pores

Siddharth Gautam et al.

Summary: The dynamical behavior of fluids under nano-pore confinement and the effects of pore connectivity on fluid dynamics have been systematically studied using molecular dynamics simulations in this research. The results show that pore connectivity enhances both translational and rotational dynamics of the confined fluids, while pore tortuosity has more nuanced effects. The intermolecular vibrational modes of the fluids also shift with an increase in the number of tortuous pores.

Rehydration Driven Na-Activation of Bentonite-Evolution of the Clay Structure and Composition

Krzysztof Bahranowski et al.

Summary: The study revealed that a Na2CO3 concentration of at least 1.0 CEC is necessary for the transformation to Na-rich montmorillonite, and the process is accompanied by the precipitation of other compounds such as poorly crystalline calcite and gaylussite. XRD and FTIR analysis were used to monitor the structural and compositional changes of the activated solids during storage.
