Optically-Boosted Planar IBC Solar Cells with Electrically-Harmless Photonic Nanocoatings

Ivan M. Santos et al.

Summary: Advanced light management with front-coated photonic nanostructures is a promising strategy to enhance photovoltaic efficiency through wave-optical light-trapping effects. In this study, engineered titanium dioxide honeycomb arrays with different geometry were tested on standard planar crystalline silicon solar cells. The nanostructured coatings achieved optical photocurrent of 36.6 mA/cm² and a significant increase in efficiency compared to uncoated cells. The high-performing LT scheme offers potential for technological improvement in the PV industry.

Photonic-Structured Perovskite Solar Cells: Detailed Optoelectronic Analysis

Sirazul Haque et al.

Summary: Recent experimental advances in perovskite solar cell technology have brought about a new era in low-cost, flexible, and high-efficiency photovoltaics. However, the study of the detailed physical mechanisms governing the optoelectronic properties of these solar cells has not kept pace with experimental breakthroughs. This article aims to bridge this gap by using a coupled optical and electrical modeling approach to optimize and assess the transport properties of photonic-structured perovskite solar cells. The findings show that ultrathin perovskite absorbers can significantly enhance light coupling and photocurrent generation, leading to increased short circuit current, open-circuit voltage, fill factor, and power conversion efficiency.

Photocurrent Enhancement with Arrays of Silicon Light Nanotowers for Photovoltaic Applications

Sarah S. P. Konedana et al.

Summary: The study presents subwavelength silicon light nanotower arrays for enhancing photocurrent under broadband and omnidirectional illumination. The presence of the top SiO2 part triggers two light-trapping mechanisms, resulting in a 15% increase in photocurrent under normal broadband solar illumination. Numerical investigation and experimental measurements confirm the effectiveness of the light nanotower arrays.

Incorporation of nano-features into surface photoactive arrays for broadband absorption of the solar radiation

Ankit Chauhan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the incorporation of nano-features into nanopillar arrays to enhance their light absorption performance and examines the underlying light trapping mechanisms using near-field microscopy. The results show that the introduction of quasi-nanolenses and sidewall nano-decorations decreases the reflected far-field photons from the ambient. Understanding the underlying light trapping mechanisms can support the design of efficient subwavelength arrays for solar radiation harvesting.

Broadband and Omnidirectional Antireflection Surfaces Based on Deep Subwavelength Features for Harvesting of the Solar Energy

Ashish Prajapati et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the utilization of deep subwavelength features to decrease broadband and omnidirectional reflection of the solar spectrum, achieving over 80% reflection decrement. Various surface silicon arrays incorporating features such as nanopillar arrays, quasinanolens, and deep subwavelength sidewall scalloping result in significant reductions in reflection, with additional exploration of possible light-trapping mechanisms numerically.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of broadband absorption in LF arrays and demonstrates that field overlap of adjacent LFs can increase the absorption cross section of individual LFs, resulting in significantly greater broadband absorption compared to NP arrays.
