Direct cost-efficient hydrothermal conversion of Amazonian lignocellulosic biomass residue

Fatima-Zahra Azar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the non-catalytic conversion of biomass wastes from two common Amazonian fruits into valuable liquid chemicals. The results show that pretreatment of the wastes significantly affects the conversion rate, but not the selectivity of main chemical products. The biomass from assai stone achieves the highest conversion rate of 90%. This study is important for exploring the low-energy non-catalytic route of biomass conversion.

Synthesis of activated carbon from cherry tree waste and its application in removing cationic red 14 dye from aqueous environments

Roya Askari et al.

Summary: The potential of activated carbon made from cherry tree wood (CWAC) in the adsorption of cationic red 14 dye was investigated in this study. The removal efficiency was assessed by considering the changes in pH, concentration, adsorbent dose, contact time, and temperature. Results showed that the efficiency of the process increased with higher contact times, temperatures, and pH, and decreased with higher initial dye concentrations. Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic models were found to best describe the observed data.

N-Doped Activated Carbons from Polypyrrole - Effect of Steam Activation Conditions

Juan J. Villora-Pico et al.

Summary: Polypyrrole (PPy) is synthesized through oxidative polymerization and used as a raw material for N-doped activated carbons. Pyrolyzing and activating PPy at 900 degrees C with steam under different conditions results in activated carbons with varied porosity and nitrogen content. The presence of nitrogen functionalities enhances water adsorption at low pressures, but porosity plays a bigger role at higher pressures.

Tao Peng et al.

Summary: This study compared and analyzed the wettability difference between vitrain and durain and revealed the influence of wettability on methane adsorption and desorption. Vitrain has a larger specific surface area and poorer wettability, leading to a higher adsorption capacity, while durain has good pore connectivity and stronger desorption capacity.

Suitability analysis of sustainable nanoporous adsorbents for higher biomethane adsorption and storage applications

Komalkant Adlak et al.

Summary: This article investigates the important role of pore structure in activated carbons for adsorbed natural gas technology. By activating biomass/biochar with KOH, hierarchical porous networks are generated, and different types of biomass yield different porosity. Ten different biomasses, including waste materials, were selected for activated carbon production and analyzed using various techniques. The results showed that coconut and pistachio shell activated carbons had suitable pore structures for methane adsorption, while other softer biomasses had wider pore distributions. The properties impacting the adsorption for ANG technology were also discussed.
